Because Cela was Cope's girlfriend, and he was her boyfriend. There were things he was not meant to do and situations he was not meant to intrude upon, and this was one of them. It would hurt Cope, and potentially hurt Cela if Cope was upset enough about it. Hadn't they been over this before?
