Esmerelda walked into the owlery, letter in hand. She looked around the owlery for a familiar white owl. She saw the owl swoop in through the window and, seeing her owner, land on her shoulder, a letter tied to her leg; Nunually's mother's reply. "Thank you Selena," she said to the owl softly, untieing the letter from the owl's leg. Selena made to fly away until Esmerelda said quickly, "Hold on, I've got another letter for you to deliver, if that's fine with you." she added, seeing Selena's stern look. Selena got off of Esmerelda's shoulder and flew over to the nearest roost, her tail feathers facing her owner. "Okay, I understand," said Esmerelda, trying to use reverse psychology, "You're tired. If you want I could have a school owl send this letter." Selena stayed where she was and hooted softly like as if saying,
Fine by me.. Esmerelda laughed,
Dang I thought that would work for sure, she thought,
Oh well. Esmerelda walked over to a school owl and was beginning to tie the letter to a barn owl when Selena flew over to the roost, hooting indignantly,
How could you use a school owl instead of your own?! Esmerelda rolled her eyes, "You're right, what was I thinking?" she said to the owl, giggling. The barn owl flew off the roost toward another one, clearly annoyed, and went back to sleep. Selena stuck out her leg for Esmerelda to tie the letter. Esmerelda opened the letter to reread it in case she had to add anything to it

How are you? How's Binka? My first few days in Hogwarts have been great. I made some new friends who are just wonderful. I'm trying out for the Quidditch team here at Hogwarts, I'm trying for Chaser. I really hope I make it. How are things at the Ministry? Anything interesting happening? Even though I'm making some nice friends, I really miss my muggle friends at home. I wish I could tell them about all the great things about this place but of course I can't. I miss you and I can't wait until the holiday so we can play Quidditch like we always do. P.S. I've been sorted in Hufflepuff! Yay! Esmerelda smiled, reading over the letter. Then she rolled up the letter and tied it to Selena's leg. She held up her arm for Selena, who hopped onto it, nibbling Esmerelda's ear affectionately. Esmerelda then carried Selena over to the window while stroking her. "Be careful," she said to the owl before the owl flew out the window and into the sky. She pocketed Nunually's letter and watched the white spech get smaller and smaller until it dissapeared completely.
