"Greenwell, Vashti."
Vashti took a long, deep breath as soon as her name was called. Biting her nails, she slowly walked over to the stool and sat down as the Sorting Hat was placed on her head.
"Ah, a Muggle-born. Slytherin may not be best for you, though you do seem very determined."
As the Sorting Hat spoke, Vashti tried to remain calm and remember what house her friends from the train were in. Had it been Slytherin? She didn't think so.
"Fairly brave, too, though you are fearful. Hm, perhaps not Gryffindor."
Had they been in Gryffindor? It sounded right, but she didn't think it was that one either.
"A brilliant mind, however. Ready to learn. Ravenclaw might be best."
Were they in Ravenclaw? That didn't seem right either, but she found that from the Sorting Hat's song she rather liked the sound of Ravenclaw.
"You're also very loyal, too, and kind. Hufflepuff could also be good for you."
Hufflepuff! Yes, that sounded right! Most of her friends had been sorted into Hufflepuff, hadn't they? Oh please, give me Hufflepuff! Please!
The Sorting Hat was silent, apparently considering her options. Finally, it said, "Ah, yes, I know which one is best for you. RAVENCLAW!"
Vashti sighed as a smile crossed her face, though she wasn't sure whether to be happy or upset. Well, I guess I'll give it a shot! She hopped off the stool and headed towards the Ravenclaw table. |
