Her ferret, Copernicus, must have been asleep on the seat next to her, because he scampered out from under the discarded jacket and up to her shoulder. At least he likes being snuggled up with me.

Grinning, Kate again focused on Kellen, looking between him and the luggage rack. "Are you alright though? That looked like it must have hurt."Oh my, do I scare him, or do all girls scare him? I have to admit, that reaction was priceless...too bad he couldn't have seen it himself, it would take him attention away from the lump forming on his head...

"You're off in the head,"
was the only comment Kellen got out before his head started to hurt in earnest and he held his hands to the spot.

"Fortunately, I think my hair cushioned a lot of the blow."
He couldn't help but grin; it sounded ridiculous even to his ears. "Ah well, I'm awake now. You just stay over there. Or cuddle Emilia. Or Andrea. Just not me."

Laughing, he suddenly had a spurt of regret wiggle it's way into his stomach. Chaucer became quiet with an eerie suddeness and straightened his posture. "Upon reflection, I think the skull was the worst bit, yes, and you should probably put on a compress. The matter is over."
But oh how he would bring this up at some other opportune time when the pain of Kellen's head would not match the pain of Chaucer's taunts! It would neutralize all his magnificent wit to continue now.
He was a little disappointed with Kate's complacency in the matter and half wished that she had been more aggravated; the agonizingly long ride could have done with a show.
"How could I have got through life without you, Chaucer? You're such a constant comfort at my side it's a wonder we're ever apart." Kellen lifted his nose at his cousin and fixed him with a look of pure irritation.

At times like this Chaucer reminded him exceedingly of his aunt; to Chaucer she was meek and submissive, but to Kellen she took great pleasure in letting loose the side of her that would seek out and comment on the slightest error in his personality, attire, or behaviour. Consequently, when Chaucer's attitude began to mirror hers, Kellen's changed more to that of his father's.

"Remember that conversation we had at the ice cream shop?"
He leaned back against the window, the same coolness that had woken him up now soothing his head, "My father was home for a few days and talked to me about the four houses. From the sound of it, I think I'd like Gryffindor. Or maybe Ravenclaw. Slytherin sounds like it's for two-dimensional social climbers."
