Chapter 30 part 1
“Hermione get out! I’ll find George and follow! Just go!”
Harry waited for a few moments to make sure that Hermione did as he told her. When she reached the door, he turned on the spot and started looking around for his brother-in-law. The fire all around him was growing bigger and the whole place seemed ready to collapse and above everything the smoke was blinding him and he couldn’t see right.
Just when he started thinking that it was unlikely that he would find George, he tripped upon something and fell down. He turned to see George’s leg appearing under some fallen shelves. As the flaming monsters all around him started moving towards them destroying everything in their path, Harry leaned down to free George. He managed to move the shelf above George with his wand and then bent over him to take his pulse. Exhaling relieved when he found it, he scooped down and picked the unconscious man up.
He looked around. Good, so he found George but now how the hell were they supposed to get out of the burning building? As panic was threatening to overwhelm him, he cursed Ron under his breath for his idea to block apparition in and out of the shop. Yeah, brilliant idea. He looked around trying to make out some gap among the flaming beasts but the flames were only gathering around them and soon if he didn’t move they would swallow them.
Supporting George he started making way inside the fallen shelves and products. He couldn’t see if he was moving towards the exit or deeper inside the shop but at least he was moving away from the bigger flaming monsters. He reached a wall and realized that he was at the deeper part of the shop, since all around him were products concerning Defense against the Dark Arts and he knew that, that area was the furthest one from the exit. Great, so they were trapped.
Probably out of clear desperation, he started shooting curses at the flames that approached them, but no curse no spell and no enchantment he tried could stop or even penetrate Fiendfyre. They were going to burn alive and there was nothing he could do about it.
“Stupefy!” he yelled desperate. The curse missed the nearest monster but banged on the opposite wall and made it break a bit. That’s it! He would have to blow his way out! He started shooting one stunning spell after the other and the wall trembled and then collapsed. As drops of sweat run down his face from the heat, he could see the road outside among the haze of the smoke.
He started drugging George there but they were moving slow and the monsters were catching up to them. He knew they wouldn’t make it at this rate. He shook his wand making George float in front of him and then he looked at the hole he made at the wall, appreciating it. Yeah, it seemed big enough. Knowing he would only have one chance he pointed his wand at George’s body and then with a bang he made his body jump all the way to the hole and then disappear somewhere outside. George was safe.
Harry, feeling rather dizzy from the heat all around him, sighed and then moved fast towards the hole he made on the opposite wall. As he moved towards safety however a wooden, burning board fell from the ceiling and on him, throwing him down and trapping his left leg under it. Cursing loudly from the pain he turned and tried to make the board move; but the board was on fire and magic didn’t work against Fiendfyre. He couldn’t free his leg with a spell as he freed George. He swore again and knowing there was really no other option left, he grabbed the burning board with his hands. The flames of Fiendfyre moved towards his fingers like lions move against their pray and soon he felt the skin of his hands burn, but he didn’t let go of the board. His hands were burning as he pushed the board off his leg as hard as he could and the fire from it started scorching both of his legs too. He cried out from the effort but he after a few moments the board moved and he managed to pull his leg from under it.
The flaming beasts were now inches away from him but the blown apart wall was only a few meters away; the only problem was that his legs were too destroyed and burned to walk a few meters. He closed his eyes for a moment trying to control the faintness the fire was making him feel and then started crawling towards the exit he created. The flames were gaining up at him but he made himself move faster.
He had to get out. The alternative just wouldn’t work. He couldn’t die; he couldn’t do that to Ginny. He couldn’t die and leave them behind. And he made himself think of Ginny and James and Albus and Lily and his baby and he was there. He was only half a meter or maybe less from the hole. He could see the road outside. He felt his heart feeling relief as he realized that with only a little bit more effort he would be outside too. Then he heard a loud bang behind him and something hit him on the head and everything went black.
