Kellen stared at her. He glanced at Chaucer, hoping to see a reaction, but didn't wait for it before looking back at her. Finally he gave Chaucer's ribs an extra rub with his knee and grinned at her, "Not to worry, I'm frequently attacked by earplugs and I'm still alive to tell the tale."
"No, I don't suppose we-OW!" Chaucer gave Kellen's knee a proper shove this time and forced it away from his chest.
"Blast you to bits, you browbeater. I don't know why you insist on beating me into a beta-position, but honestly I'm... you know what? I am above this. Truly." Chaucer returned to his bag once more and pulled out a book labelled "Book of the Courtier" by Castiglione and, pulling free a pressed-flower bookmark, began to read.
He secretly regretted not bringing his GameBoy.
