Marilyn watched him go with still-narrowed eyes. She understood his protective attitude over his friends...but it was clear he didn't know much about what was truly going on. No one did...except her and Rafe.

It was never her intention to become involved with her best friend...She'd made that deal with Carter with the fake dating, but real feelings had gotten involved...like she knew they would. He was attentive and protective over her and she was lucky to have him. Not many girls ever found someone like Carter Phillips...But then Rafe had kissed her and she became confused.

Marilyn had never seen Rafe as obtainable. When she was with him, it was easy enough to picture them together. It was like the most natural, perfect thing in the world...But with him being her best friend, the Slytherin would've never made that move. Why did he have to?

She lowered her face to rest in her hands, thoroughly hurt and confused by the two Gryffindors in her life. They were going to be the death of her.
