"I-I-I sorry," he stammered, trying to look into Shackleton's face and doing his best to look ashamed. "It were a accident. Sssswear!"
Well, Jake thought accidents were alllll things you didn't mean. He didn't mean any of that stuff in there... he could barely remember it... therefore, he saw it as an accident. And he was sorry... but only sorry that he was in trouble.
As Shackleton mentioned expulsion, Jake gasped a little and hiccoughed at the same time, causing a cough or two to erupt. When he was done, Jake tried to regain his composure and started to bit the end of the thumb on his free hand.
As long as his foster mother wasn't informed about his behaviour, Jake would be happy enough. Her disappointment was the only thing that ever made him truly sorry. He ignored the questions Shackleton asked and instead thumped his head backwards against the corridor wall, quite hard, but only once. That was a kind of warning, as if to say, please just leave it. He did, however, mention just one thing without thinking. "She... tried tuh, tuh, tuh steal 'em..."
URGH! Detentions. Perfect. PERRRRRRRRRRFECT! She was right. He had the detentions with Shackleton and Kaz, then the little tutor sessions with Lawson, and then Quidditch practice, and homework, and of course all the other stuff he was having to do. Too much, man. Too much.
Practically breaking down again, Jake nodded his head frantically, not trusting himself to speak. He just wanted to high-tail it out of there. He didn't care about his things which were still in the classroom. Macadrian sighed. Clearly this boy did not know the meaning of the word 'accident.' "Mr. Upstead, you intentionally pointed your wand at Abby and knowingly cast a blasting curse at her. That is not an accident! And it seemed entirely unprovoked, which makes your behavior that much more strange and inappropriate!"
Mac closed her eyes and rubbed her temples. She was getting a headache. Then she heard Jake say something odd. "Steal them? Steal what? Who tried to steal something?"
