Tiberius entered the room timidly, having just returned for getting a new pair of shoes from his trunk. He carefully brushed his hair out of his eyes, which were now wide with terror. There were four-foot PIXIES staring him down, wielding books and lamps, waiting for him. He froze in place, except for one hand, which moved to his holster to get his wand. Moving his eyes slowly from side to side, he looked for a place to take cover as the pixies leered at him. Beads of sweat began to form on his brow as his mind raced. It's like muggle gym class... only worse, he thought, imagining the pixies like a team full of older boys with dodgeballs, waiting to get him.
Spotting an overturned desk far to his right, Tibi wrapped his fingers around his wand, following the pixies with his eyes. They were doing the same, sizing him up, waving the objects in their hands ever so subtly. Gripping his wand tight, he turned and sprinted for the desk, robes flapping. The pixies had jumped to attention and had begun throwing books at him as he ran. A lamp smashed against the wall over his head, while books thumped against the walls behind him. Tibi was feeling pretty good about how fast he was running when a book caught his heel and sent him flying across the floor. Skidding along, he managed to scurry behind the desk anyway, as more lamps crashed around him. He could hear the books thumping against the top of the desk, though he was completely hidden by it.
If there was anything Tibi was good at, it was hiding.
The thumps stopped and Tibi worried that it might mean that they were closing in. Flipping over to his knees, Tibi peered around the edge of the desk to see them poised, ready to strike and waiting for him to reappear. Suddenly, one pixie noticed him and grabbed a lamp to throw. Rolling to his side so his wand hand was free, Tibi frantically tried to replicate the 'd' movement they'd learned in class and cried, "Expelliarmus!" before the pixie could get off the throw.
The lamp spun out of the pixie's hand and high into the air before coming to a crashing stop on the head of another pixie, knocking it out, cold. That was one down and.... six more to go? Tibi ducked back behind the table and tried to figure out what to do. Hearing a screech, he looked up to see a pixie headed right for him. Tibi panicked and jabbed his wand forward, screeching, "Locomotor mortis!" Instantly, the pixie's legs locked and it fell face first into the desk. The pixie's arms were still flailing, but it was at least down for the moment.
Using the desk as a shield, Tiberius disarmed pixie after pixie until they were out of things to throw. After each time, Tibi felt the movement coming more naturally and settled into a bit of a rhythm. At one point, one pixie attempted to pick up and throw the knocked-out pixie, now that all the books and lamps had been spun out of reach.
Perhaps a little too pleased with himself, Tibi had forgotten about the pixie nearby who was leg-locked but could still scratch and grab. Leaning out a little too far, the pixie grabbed Tibi's hair and screeched wildly. Sensing that the boy was in a bind, the rest of the pixie's began to move in. "Locomotor mortis! Locomotor mortis!" Tibi repeated the incantation rapidly, jabbing and thrusting his wand in any and every direction, hoping to hit the pixies, while struggling against the one who was still holding tight.
The fun from disarming had worn off and Tibi was getting worried. His poorly aimed curses had hit a few pixies, but they were regaining use of their legs as he watched. Managing to separate himself from the other pixie, he ducked back behind the desk. What was that other spell? Tibi's mind raced. He hadn't practiced the last spell in class and had no idea if it would work. Closing his eyes tightly, he left his hiding place and jabbed quickly in the direction of the assaulting pixie. "Petrificuls Totalus!" Was that it? Had he done it right? Opening an eye just a teensy bit, Tibi could see the pixie wasn't moving at all. He'd done it!
Now, just to deal with the others rapidly approaching. Repeating the incantation over and over was proving difficult, and Tibi's mouth was going dry and the words were smushing together. Some feel instantly, but others kept coming. Sweat poured down Tibi's face as they approached closer and closer. They'd reached the desk and now Tibi was backing up against a wall. Rushing backward and pressing his back to the stone, he closed his eyes tightly and awkwardly jabbed his wand around. "Petrificus Totalus! Please work! Petricius Totalus!" The screeching continued, though softer. "Petrificus Totalus!" Silence.
Opening his eyes, Tibi looked around the room. All the pixies were down. Now... he just had to get them in a cage. Wiping the sweat from his brow, and the tears from his eyes, Tibi scrunched up his face. He didn't know any spells to move them. Holstering his wand, he grabbed a pixie by the feet and dragged it across the room and laid it in the cage. Repeating this action for the others he'd petrified, Tibi had gotten all but one pixie back in the cage. The last one had been knocked out by a lamp, not petrified, but Tibi's forgotten.
As he dragged the pixie over to the cage, it came to, and made a grab for Tibi's cloak. Fumbling for his holster and grabbing his wand, Tibi managed a choked "Petrificus Totalus" in his panic as he jabbed his wand, and actually connected with the pixie's chest. It dropped to the floor, but having ripped Tibi's robe as it fell, clutching it. Dragging this final pixie to the cage, Tibi closed and locked it. What. an. assignment.
Tibi sat in a chair, waiting a few moments before reversing the spells. He needed to catch his breath. Standing and squaring his shoulders, Tibi flicked his wand in the direction of the cage and spoke a soft, "Finite." Almost instantly, the pixies were back on their feet, rapping against the bars and making the most horrendous sounds. It was over.
Turning back to the door and making his way out of the room, Tibi cast a look over his shoulder at the cage of pixies. Much worse than dodgeball.
