| Granddaddy Ravenclaw | | Jermione Granger Satisfied with his meeting with Professor Shackleton, Tibi returned to the common room. Dragging his already overstuffed bag behind him, he settled down near a table to write home. His Mum had asked him to write every chance he got.
Pulling out the stationary set and sealing wax, he started to write home about the train ride. Scrunching his face in thought, he opted to leave out the part about Willie terrorizing him. Instead, he wrote about how he'd met a few nice older students and some other first years on his ride and then even more at the table.
He paused, thinking about what else to write. Oh! The Sorting! And what the hat said about dad! Scribbling furiously, Tibi tried to get it all on the parchment. Thinking more about the feast, he thought it might be best to leave out the poo and the tutus. Tibi sighed, letting his hair flop in his face again. There was going to be a lot he had to leave out of his letters, wasn't there. Finishing off with a note about his first class, he quickly re-read his letter. Text Cut: letter home
Hi Mum!
Hogwarts is really great so far! The train ride was really nice; I sat with a third year named Jake who has been really helpful. I saw Ella again and met some other first years. It was a pretty uneventful trip. When we got to school, they did what they call a sorting. We had to put this really really old magic hat on and it told us what house to go in! Some people it knew right away, but it sat on my head for a while, and talked just to me. It was really scary at first, but then, the hat said it knew Dad! It was the same hat that had put Dad in his house when he was my age! The hat told me Dad was a Gryffindor but that I wasn’t quite as brave as he was. Was Dad very brave, Mum? I wonder if anyone else around here knew Dad? The portraits talk and have been here for years, so maybe they would? Anyway, the hat put me in Ravenclaw, which is a house that values knowledge and learning. I think it’s a good fit.
Classes are starting and I had my first lesson today. It’s called Arithmancy and it’s all about how numbers are magic and what they can tell us. I’m finding it a little hard, but I think I’m getting the hang of it. It’s so different from regular math! Flying lessons should start soon and I’m really nervous about being so high. I’m going to go talk to the professor who teaches it and see if he can help.
I should probably finish this letter. I have homework to finish and then two more classes - Defense Against the Dark Arts and History of Magic!
Miss you and lots of love,
Tibi.
Placing it down on the table, he leaned back in the chair, allowing himself to be distracted by everything around him.
