Penelope took the piece of bubblegum Lettie offered her with a smile. "Thank you!" she said. Penelope opened the wrapper and tentatively put the gum in her mouth. She wasn't completely sure but felt almost certain this was wizarding gum, and she didn't know if there was a difference between the muggle gum she was accustomed to and gum in the wizarding world. Placing it in her mouth, she began to chew. Her eyes grew wide as she tasted a delicious flavor she had never experienced before, and she loved it. She smiled at Lettie again, grateful to be making a new friend.
Wanting to offer something in return, Penelope thought she would bring out the cat treats she had brought with her and offer some to Lettie's cat. Opening her backpack again, she found the container of treats, poured out a few for Paisley, and then offered the box to Lettie. Penelope thought that both cats might enjoy them and that they might further calm the felines.
"I really am looking forward to the classes. I tried to read ahead after I got my books. I think I'm going to enjoy Charms most. As for what House I will be sorted into, I am thinking Hufflepuff might be the one. They take hard workers, and, well, being muggle-born, I might have to work a little harder at my lessons," Penelope said with her head down. Although she felt certain Lettie wasn't one of them, Penelope knew from some of the reading that she'd done that some witches and wizards don't have a particularly favorable view of muggle-borns.
Deciding not to dwell on that, Penelope blew a bubble and popped it. Looking back up, she smiled sheepishly at Lettie, "Sorry. Mum taught me blowing bubbles is rude, but I always thought that was dumb. Why is it called bubble gum if you aren't supposed to blow bubbles?" Penelope laughed nervously, and then asked, "What classes do you like best?"
Lettie allowed Ornlu to eat a couple of the treats as they were offered. Though the girl knew all too well that the cat might become very restless again, but for now it was alright.
"The classes are pretty fun here. I'm fond of Muggle Studies, Defense against the Dark Arts, and Care of Magical Creatures myself...those seem to be the ones that I get the hang of very quickly." She put another piece of gum into her mouth and blew a bubble, letting it pop and cover half of her face before she stuffed it all back inside her mouth again rather loudly.
"I love making bubbles...that's the sport of it." "Muggle-born eh?" She asked, her hazel green eyes looking Penelope over a bit more.
"That must be fun! I live around a lot of muggles, and I had to work for one over the summer...one of my father's friends. They sure have some neat stuff that's for sure. I use a bike that was given to me by my aunt, but aside from that I don't have many other muggle things." Leticia brought out a small green book that had a couple of photographs inside.
"That's him right there, my boss." On the picture there was a middle-aged man with a balding head and dark brown moustache.
"I don't think I'll ever understand what you sort get up to all the time." She couldn't help but laugh a little bit,
"But I guess that's fine, I'm only a half-blood myself." "Charms is your favorite class? Yeah, that topic is fun too. If you like potions at all, then you'll be in for a shock once you get to Hogwarts. The professor is okay, but I never was very good in that class."
