Chapter Seventy
“Mr Malfoy, Miss Granger and Mr Weasley would you stay here please” said McGonagall as they arrived in her office through the fireplace “Mr Malfoy, you have missed a significant part of your schooling meaning that I would like you to stay on possibly until next year”
He nodded but Hermione spoke up
“If Harry, Ron and I tutored him, got him up to date with everything, could he sit his newts and graduate with us all?”
Draco turned to her in amazement “You would do that for me?”
“We’re giving you one last chance” she said unsmilingly “But if ‘mudblood’ passes your lips you can forget it”
“Never again – I’m a changed man – I just want to forget this all happened”
“You want me to trust him?” said Ron pulling away from Hermione,
“Yes, I think he’s proven himself today and he needs our help to regain his life” She replied,
“After everything he’s done, the names, the breaking in to kidnap Ginny, the making our school lives generally miserable when ever he could” He said not sure what she was doing.
“Our school lives haven’t exactly been fun filed with or without Draco, and Ginny’s forgiven him, so has Harry so will I. To rebuild our lives we have to forgive and forget” she replied,
“Quite rightly said Miss Granger” replied McGonagall to the surprise of Ron and Draco,
“Thanks Granger” Grinned Draco,
“You’re welcome Malfoy – but just call me Hermione from now on”
“Have you gone nuts Hermione?” said Ron,
“Maybe I am for trusting him, but think about it Ron, he helped Harry up there today”
Ron sighed “You get one chance, you blow it and I’ll make sure not even you’re girlfriend will want you”
“Ron!” said Hermione looking at him outraged,
“I’m joking!” he said with a grin “But really one chance and if you do stuff up, well you’ll be here another year”
McGonagall smiled “Think yourself luck Mr Malfoy, because it probably won’t be offered again”
“I’ll do it, of course I will, but can Amy too, she was homeschooled but she’s nearly as good as Gra - Hermione” he said correcting himself.
“I think we can sort something out – for now Mr Malfoy you will belong to no house, and you will sleep in the guest quarters, Mr Potter and Miss Weasley’s belongings have been returned to there dorms so I will ask my head students to escort you to your quarters and if they could provide you with some sort of clothing for this evenings celebrations well we sort out bringing your own belongings from home”
Hermione nodded “I think we can do that Professor” she said looking him up and down, they’d put him in a clean set of robes for the trial, let him run a comb through his hair and have a wash like they did everyday but he still looked like a prisoner.

Harry stood at the bottom of the stairs calling up “Hurry up Gin!”
But there was no reply apart from Draco lounging on the couch opposite from Ron “There girls if it takes this long to get ready its normal”
But Harry’s thinking was the sooner they got to this party the faster they could get out. He’d been thinking and although seeing his friends would be fun, it would be there first appearance in school for about a week and he wanted to be left without the hassle.
“Draco’s right for once” said Ron “Just sit down”
Harry glanced at his watch, the procession in to the hall had started, by the time they got there they’d be going in with the rest of there year hopefully, otherwise it would be with Filch and Madam Pince at the end of the line. “I want to get in there before we end up as the last ones and then there’s more unwanted attention”
Ron and Draco stood up “Hurry up” they shouted up the stairs laughing and handing Harry a butterbeer.

Ginny stood in front of the mirror examining her reflection,
“You sure this looks ok?”
“Yes now let’s go, that’s the fifth time he’s called up there for you”
“He can wait, he’ll forget about it soon as he sees me anyway” she said turning round with a grin “if that is what you think of this dress is true?”
“For the hundredth time Gin, you look flipping gorgeous now can we go!” She laughed standing up; making the final adjustments to her hair and opening the door
“You look fabulous to don’t forget”
“Out now” She grinned as Ginny put her hands on her hips and pouted.
“Please” she added and Ginny laughed
“I’m coming” she grabbed her wand putting it into the small black clutch fitted with an enlargement charm, and linked her arm in Hermione’s “Lets make them think its worth the wait – make an entrance” she giggled as Hermione smiled and they walked down the staircase.
She looked at Harry’s face with a cheeky smile, it was completely different to when she wore the dress at the Christmas party and she knew he wasn’t going to want to waste time at the party.
Hermione looked to Ron. He blinked, gaped and then jumped up of the couch to meet them at the bottom of the stairs standing next to Harry.
“You look…” said Harry speechless as he held out his arm to her “You look amazing” he grinned to her “You both do” he laughed turning to Ron who’s ears had gone red but he still couldn’t speak. Hermione just linked Ron’s arm with hers and laughed, as Draco looked at the four of them with a grin, saying “Let’s go”

They entered the hallway to see the masses of students done up in there party clothes and the music playing in the great hall filtering out. The teachers had all gone in but McGonagall was waiting for her head boy and girl.
“Miss Granger, Mr Weasley – right on time” she smiled “In we go” Hermione pulled him along, he still hadn’t said a word and they were followed by the prefects in there house pairings. Then everyone entered by there year group and last but not least Harry and Ginny snuck in beside Neville with an excited looking Angela and Luna with Dean as Draco was latched onto by Ginny’s friends , Emily, Spence, Kate, and Tisha. Ginny spotted Tori in the crowd, along with Maria dancing rather crazily by herself until Luna, Angela and Neville joined her. A speech was made, the music starting again and all danced until the time was announced. It was a minute to midnight. Harry smiled looking down at Ginny as they danced,
“You know I love you Gin” he grinned
“I know that” she laughed reaching up to kiss him briefly,
“Isn’t that supposed to wait till we hit New Year” he grinned,
“I’m a little over eager” her hands at his neck brushed over his skin and into the bottom of his hair, playing with a few strands with her finger tips.
“I love you even more when you’re over eager” He said and smiled leaning down to kiss her
“Oi cut it out you two” said Ron with a smile
“What... This?” said Ginny smiling as she pulled down Harry’s head towards her and kissed him again lingering deliberately to annoy Ron.
“Yeh that! It’s gross!”
“Come off it Ron” laughed Harry “Just kiss Hermione in front of all these people-”
“- and we might consider being more inconspicuous” finished Ginny,
“No” said Ron before turning to Hermione to explain what he meant but she just laughed “Come here you idiot” And she kissed him before he could say a single word. A cheer went up from the students and teachers alike as balloons fell from the ceiling and couples kissed to bring in the New Year
