Derek's Date...

“hey Sara,” said a clear jovial voice. Sara was snapped out of her trance and she looked up to see Derek standing by the side of her arm chair.
“hey Derek, what’s up? Seem a bit too happy today,” she said
“um…yeah, I mean…”
“what?”
“come sit here…” he said and showed her to follow him. They both sat down on the couch in front of the fire
“what?”
“um…I was thinking about this entire Christmas Ball thing, you see,” he started off
“yes…and…” said Sara. She guessed right that this was going to be his topic of discussion keeping the most important Potions test of tomorrow’s aside.
“but he hasn’t taken Potions classes,” Sara reminded herself
“hello…” said Derek waving his hands in front of her.
“um…yeah…what?” she said unsure of what she heard while she was thinking something else.
“when will you stop this?” he asked
“stop what?”
“this, this day dreaming of yours. I mean…you were the one to ask why I am so happy and then you don’t even listen to what I say,” he said his voice disappointed.
“I am really, really sorry, Derek. Please, please repeat it again. I swear I will listen this time,” she said pleading
“promise?”
“promise”
He looked at her skeptically as if unsure to believe whether she will fulfill her promise but he continued, “I…um…was thinking of asking…Fionatothechristmasball,”
The last part of the sentence was too quick for Sara to register in her mind
“sorry?”
“damn…do you know how much courage it takes to tell this and you expect me to tell this again,” he said
“well if gushing the words out of your mouth is your sign of courage, then I guess you need to work a lot on being courageous, kid cause courageous kids are not that nervous and don’t rush with words when they are talking,” said Sara.
“firstly, don’t call me a kid” he said and she looked up to him. She saw herself in him when he said that. She remembered how her friend used to call her like that she used to get irritated.
“and secondly…well there is no secondly…” he said shrugging, “Sara I was saying that I was thinking of asking Fiona to the Ball,” he said softly and slowly so that only she could hear it.
“I knew it you will come around some time,” said Sara triumphantly as if it was under her guidance that he had the courage to think of asking Fiona out. Derek cocked his brow, “I guess apart form you everyone else thought that. You were too busy in studying for NEWTS to even notice what’s happening around you”
“I guess you are wrong again, kid,” she said and he growled, she giggled, “sorry, no more kid,”
“so…you haven’t told her yet?”
“no…no I am trying to think about the right moment,” he said
“and did you think of one?”
“no, not yet”
“are you going to ask her today?”
“I guess yes”
“what do you mean by ‘I guess’?”
“well…if I don’t get a proper moment today how am I going to ask her? ”
“Derek…honestly you are asking out for a Ball not her hand for your rest of your life, you dumb head. You don’t need to take her for a dinner and bend on one knee to ask her for the Ball,” said Sara
“well…you are of course right,” he said slightly blushing. The very thought of being with Fiona for ever never occurred to him but now when Sara told him he was slightly shaken by that thought.
“well… I am always right,” she said as a matter of fact.
“um…yeah that’s right again,” he said meekly and Sara rolled her eyes.
“um…Sara this is very um…sort of a girly thing you see…”
“what is a girly thing Derek?”
“I mean…this asking out thing?”
“have you seen a girl asking a guy out, Derek?” said Sara exasperatedly
“um…well that Raven did it for Wayne, though,” he reminded her and she rolled her eyes again
“what is girly about asking someone to a Ball, Derek?”
“um…girly…as such…I mean…it is a delicate topic, I have to be careful how I ask,” he said
“say like that Derek,” said Sara
“but don’t be too careful that you will never get a chance to ask her out and tell your feelings to her,” said Sara and Derek looked as if he was caught off guard again
“is this the same Sara I am talking to, the one who is much more interested in NEWTs than small teen crushes and love?”
“yes, you are,” she said confidently
“wow, when did you start preaching about love, Sara”
“I am not preaching anything. I am just telling you and asking you not to be too late for your emotions and feelings to be expressed that’s it,” she said in a tone which Derek couldn’t comprehend so he just sat there quietly and started thinking how should he ask Fiona to the Ball.

that was for today...have a nice day...
