"Poor sleepy Kiri... You shouldn't worry about me so much, it's probably why you're tired. Everyone gets motion-sick at least once, right? At least you were there when it happened." He chuckled. "If I'd been all alone on the train and feeling all icky, I would've been sad." He paused, then added, "But if you'd come over to the Gryffindor Table and gotten hurt, then I would have felt really bad. I don't think they wanted to hurt me, just Pie. And then Willie. And possibly Jude."
Oooh, she'd found another friend to talk to, that was nice. He smiled and poked the remains of food on his plate absently.

He had gotten so close to poking the one boy in the eye and he hadn't even realized it until now. That would have been bad, if he had actually poked that boy in the eye. Oh man, there would have been terrible things to pay.
"An'..." he mumbled, "An' Oi 'eard one of 'em say 'e was in de..." he looked around and whispered even quieter, "In de m-a-f-oi-a" he spelled it out, unwilling to say it again in case they somehow heard him and were mean to him again. He didn't think he could take much more of that.
Kiri fell silent as Jude began explaining to the girl, Hayley. She had trouble understanding him even when he wasn't upset, but now she really had to concentrate to get what he was talking about. She nodded at what she judged to be appropriate times. It really was a good thing that they hadn't gotten into a fight after all, that the professors had been there. Whatever this mafia was, the fearful way in which Jude spoke of it didn't really made Kiri want to find out.
He went on and on. Kiri refilled her goblet, still leaning against Raiden. This was enough excitement for one day.
When he patted her on the head, a happy shudder went through her. "I just wanted to make sure
you weren't going to get hurt," she mumbled into her goblet. "They looked mean enough to just hit everyone." Another thought occurred to her, even more frightening. "And what if they'd pulled wands at you?" The thought of Raiden being hexed... She dug her fingers into his robes heavily. (
And where those the robes they'd bought together in Diagon Alley?)
