She stopped before seating, making sure this was the table she was supposed to be in. Where were the Huffie peeps? She was usually one of the last ones to arrive, and couldn't believe her eyes.
Oh, well, she arrived in time to see the sorting, this will be her first, ever since she was sorted, that is.
Yet she was failing to notice any new face, all she wanted was some pumpkin juice and then bed. Surely they'll be waking up the next day in no time, and off to planning the next Quidditch plays, which was all she was looking forward to. Dominic was quite late. He knew that already when he entered the familiar looking dining area and saw NO students, NO ickle first years, up at the Dias and the Professor was putting the hat aside. The Prefect had missed the new students being sorted, all because he decided to take his time getting off the train at Hogsmeade. From a quick glance at the Staff table though, he decided that he had thankfully not missed the Headmaster's speech. Considering what he found out regarding Anna and Clifford on the train, this was crucial he hear the speech.
Despite his still minor jealousy from the incident with the shopkeeper in Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, his golden eyes wandered to the Ravenclaw table, which was coupled with many new, bubbling first years. But he was easily able to spot her and her dark hair, looking more lovely than ever. Swallowing hard, he pulled his eyes away and directed his focus instead towards his own house table. Time to meet some new first year Hufflepuffs.
Aussie voice that sounded very familiar. OH! It was the one he heard in Florean's, with her. Ugh; more reminders.
The Hufflepuff prefect continued to search down the table until his eyes rested on one whom he was at one time on friendly terms with. Kaika Lockhart. But he hardly spoke to her during the Championship Game last term and was sure it had something to do with Willow Kovac and what Vanessa had inconveniently shared at the Victory party a week or so prior - a party he had not attended. Best to not bring it up, he decided - especially if he wanted to play quidditch again this term. Quote:

Normally he would be shy, but as he barely knew anyone he turned to the people beside him and said, "is the Hufflepuff table always this empty?" Quote:

Smoothing out her robes, which had become creased from being stored in her trunk since being washed, she marched over to the Hufflepuff table.
Glancing around at the people already there she realised that the only ones she recognised were a couple of the older girls..and they were busy talking to each other.Everyone else was either new to Hogwarts or just to her.
Sighing she decided that she would at least sit near someone in the hope of getting a conversation started.
Clambering into a seat next to a boy that looked slightly older than her,Sarah smiled, hoping that he wouldn't mind her presence. Then he spoke.Maybe not to her directly but Sarah decided to answer him anyway as no-one else seemed to be about to. "It can be yeah, especially early on.Have you not sat here before then?" she asked, somewhat confused. So Dominic did what he did best. He ignored his problems and the one person he had at a time been speaking with. Oh - there was an enjoyable person to be around! Ryder; a slightly younger Hufflepuff who was he had met randomly in Diagon Alley. The sixth year was about to approach him - gleeful to have male presence at last who he knew - when a younger girl (who looked only slightly familiar meaning not a First Year) approached him and spoke to him.
Dominic instead did something rare and took the advice of former Prefect, Kayla Winters, from the letter he received just prior to boarding the train in London. Quote:

The hat contemplated putting her into Ravenclaw, but in the end shouted “HUFFLEPUFF”. Ash climbed off of the stool and walked down the path down to the yellow and black table. Slipping into a seat Ash wondered what this year would bring her. He sat down next to an apparent new Hufflepuff and beamed at her. "Welcome to Hufflepuff!" Dominic exclaimed surprisingly, hiding his inner angst quite well.
