Finally fitting the pieces together, Jake looked up with dawning realisation. "But... no-one loves me."
She sighed. He was so stubborn. She would just let it go. He would see for himself one day. See that relationships weren't a contract. And that love was real.
"That's not true, Jake. I love you." Yeah, that sounded sappy, but it was true. She loved this boy. He was misguided about some things, but he was really a good kid.
