Lyra heard Jack's response to her question of the tail and then heard the Hufflepuff state his name. "Nice to meet you Ross," she said then looked back at Jack and watched him walk away. She may have been mad at him before but after what happened at the lake, she was all about protecting him now.

But something else caught her attention. She heard crying coming from the staff room that Professor Shackleton entered. Was the professor that upset? "Hey, listen," she said as her eyes looked around then back to Banana and Cale. "The staff door is wide opened. We can hear everything they are saying." OKay!
