Tino shook his wand like an Etch-a-Sketch. "Work! Work, you blasted thing! Proteeego!" Welts were sprouting all over his face and hands. Sensitive skin had no 'up' side. Tino sincerely wished there was someone he could owl home about this teaching atrocity, someone other than his uncle who would say 'Spiked acorns build character!'. Uncle thought pain and suffering built character. At this rate, Tino was going to be the most characterized individual on the planet.
"Tobi! Are you doing it? Come do it over here, by me!"
But Tobi was doing something else. Something that looked suspiciously like choking. Tino shot up, one arm over his head. "Tobi?"
The man was purple.
Without waiting for an answer, Tino ran to his tall friend and wrapped his arms around him from behind. He heaved with all his might. "Death won't build character! Death won't build character!," he yelled into Tobi's back.
