Matilda hated to think what would happen to the people stationed behind her. She hated to think what would happen to the people in front of her as well. “You should…” she said, raising an arm to protect her face from the canons of steaming potatoes, “…look in a mirror,” she gasped, “and perhaps you’ll find out!” unless the mirror shattered first.
Moments earlier, she had thought Hogwarts would be tolerable so long as there were food. And now it was being spoilt by an abomination that might as well spoil everything else. “You’re DEAD!” the first year screeched, picking up the fallen potato and threw it with the force of a catapult. The sight would have sent her grandmother to tears even in her grave.

Without saying anything to Juni, Issy jumped up, surging with adrenaline and sense of authority pumping through her veins. Her usually sweet face was rearranged and her childish features twisted with anger, brows lowered deeply over her eyes, their vivid green bright with her temper.
"What in the name of Merlin's beard do you think you guys are doing?" she snarled as she approached them. "A FOOD fight? REALLY? How old are you all?" Narrowed eyes looked over all of them and she realized that her hands were on her hips, like her Mummy did when she was angry. "We're in the Great Hall at the OPENING FEAST and you think it smart to throw food around? ARE YOU GUYS BARBARIANS?! Do you plan to make us lose the Cup from the get go?"
Ravenclaw was supposed to be a good example! And now they were going to lose points because of a few stupid, ignorant children who insisted on behaving like monkeys? Selfish! That's what they were! Selfish children!
The only thing Matilda hadn’t counted on was her off aim. Someone had been yelling, and Matilda had thought it was Kana. Her fingers left the potato and the laws of acceleration did not stop it from colliding with Issy.
“Fudge.”
