She certainly looked very different, being divested of her mint, macaron-ed ensemble and her petticoats. Anyone who had the bravery, if not the actual brainpower to go with it, to lift her robe would have discovered that she still insistently wore bloomers. And they were ruffled and polkadotted and trimmed with lace. She had a pink ribbon around her neck with a cupcake hanging from it, nonpareils sparkling tackily as they caught the candlelight and it matched the crisp headbow she wore defiantly atop her head.
Her parasol - more important than her wand in terms of self-defense as of now - perched by her side.
Let us have a sample of her thoughts as she sits, a valiantly ridiculous and malevolent little girl cutting up her potato with the venom only someone reaching puberty can aspire to:
This stupid uniform might look like a bathrobe, but the dogs can't take away my freedom of self-expression!!!
One might reflect that it is troubling for a person to put so much of her own ideas of identity into her clothing choices - one might also want to take a class on Gender Studies. All Kana wanted, at this exact moment, was to go home. Failing that, she wanted to punch some of her overexcited, 'OMGHOGWARTS!!!' classmates in the face.
Matilda did what she proposed to do the moment she stepped foot in Hogwarts. She explored. At least, that was what she told herself; there was quite a big difference between exploring and wandering around, though. But it’s only because she didn’t want to get lost, right?
Right. Matilda didn’t really get what the big deal was about houses. The only thing that set them apart (so far) was the hideous combination of colours. Who in their right mind would pair green with silver? And what was this, blue with brown? Matilda was glad she was sorted in Slytherin instead of Ravenclaw.
Her robes were all black nonetheless, and she didn’t bother changing out of her second-hand clothes seeing as the robes were long enough to cover most of it. In other words, the pathetic lot couldn’t even tell the difference with the black thing on.
She sauntered up and down tables, stopping once or twice to stare at tacky looking Herbology teachers. And was that a head bow? Matilda’s expression changed into something not scowl and not smirk, something in between (and it is possible if your name was MAD Mc’nuland.)
“I apologize for saying expensive clothes does not suit you.” Matilda said once she was close enough, and far enough from the range of a parasol. “You look like a gnome right now.”
