Random writing sample:

His eyes shifted restlessly around the darkened room, the chair he was sitting in moving back and forth silently. It was in the hours of the early morning; the moon still high in the sky, its light spilling in through the open window. A warm breeze wafted in every now and then; but soon no longer disturbed him as he slid deeper into his thoughts.

He could not sleep. It was impossible to do so, for each time he closed his eyes, he saw her face. How could this be the end? How could she leave him?

And despite it all; despite the fact that seeing her face made his heart ache, he found his eyes unwillingly closing. He had memorized her to perfection; bright green eyes that sparkled each time he saw her; sweet smile; a laugh that never failed to lift his spirits.

He wanted to keep the memories; even if each one sent a stabbing pain shoot right through him. He didn’t want to forget her; didn’t want her voice to fade.

Time slowly moved by until finally his eyes snapped opened; staring straight ahead to the pictures on the wall; more memories that he did not wish to give up. Seeing them there, his hands curled into fists but he ignored the feelings of fingernails digging into skin.

Slowly, his hands relaxed as he concentrated on breathing in and out. One hand rose to his face and he lighly touched the corner of one eye, pulling the hand away to look at it. Tears glistened on his fingertips.

The rocking finally ceased. The funeral would be today; at the moment the sun’s rays would light up the sky. Though there would be no more sun for him; she had been his sun; she had been his other half.
