Hogwarts RPG Name: Dake Juke Sixth Year | Naoke nodded and took the offered seat without question.
She was slightly surprised to see the way her boss had handled the slightly rude woman, but knew better than to say anything; she knew things were done differently here, though how she wasn't completely sure. Besides, her boss might want to speak with her in private.
She listened intently, not at all surprised that her boss had been an elite Auror before this. She was mildly curious as to what form her boss took when in animagus form, but kept quiet as the woman continued her speech.
She was rather happy to hear that her boss had such high expectations for her team; Naoke would do well here, she thought.
The moment Naoke's name was called, she stood up and bowed, though took a moment to collect her thoughts. Now was the time to be serious and eloquent and show her true worth. There was one thing that always took people by surprise when meeting Naoke: She was a master of adaptation. She could adapt to any situation given enough time (which was usually only about five minutes). Her personality could change at the drop of a hat if need be. Of course, she was still clumsy. That wouldn't change no matter what.
Clearing her throat, Naoke turned her body at enough of an angle that all could see her face. She glanced at everyone in the room and began her own introduction.
"My name is Uwa Naoke," she said. "I'm twenty years old and I come from Japan. I was born in Tokyo and lived there till I was five years old. After I moved to Aomori. In Japan, children are taught at home until they are five and then they attend a school for young wizards before advancing to an academy that teaches the older and more advanced.
"I attended the Young Mage's Academy of Aomori and graduated two years early. I then came here to England for private study, which took up the two years that I would have spent at the Mage's Academy. Upon my return to Japan I attended the Wizard's Academy of Japan. I excelled in all subjects, though I had a bit more trouble in Transfiguration and had to work harder to pass with top grades. I was praised by my Martial Magic instructor and many other instructors as well. Martial Magic is similar to Defense Against the Dark Arts except that it combines martial arts and magic."
She paused to take a breath before continuing.
"In Japan we also are expected to have an understanding of Dark Arts, though we are closely watched even after graduating for obvious reasons. I studied the Dark Arts thoroughly from the time I started at the Wizard's Academy to this very day. I find it interesting and dangerous and have never practised it myself, again, for obvious reasons. Another subject that differs in Japan than from here is Word Magic. The class teaches children the ability to use non-spells as magic. For instance, if I lost my wand and were unable to perform wandless magic, I could easily protect myself by simply saying," and here she switched from English to Japanese, "Protection." She quickly switched back to English. "It's a very difficult branch of magic and very old.
"Also in Japan we were taught non-verbal and wandless magic starting in the second year at the Wizard's Academy." She paused, deep in thought. What else was there...?
"I graduated at the same time as everyone else, though I was capable of graduating earlier. After I finished school, I went into the Japanese Ministry where I worked under Azume Fura in the International Cooperation, Japanese Seats."
She paused again. Now was the important part.
"In Japan, we are taught that weaknesses are bad and traditional Wizarding families do their best to weed out all weakness. My family did this to an extent. I was taught that my weaknesses can be used to my advantage; they can become my strength. Unfortunately, I'm a bit of a daydreamer (though never at work) and my father said it is my greatest weakness because it cannot be turned into a strength. I disagree, but that involves a long explanation. One of my strengths is my inate sense of curiousity. I have a strong thirst for knowledge and figuring things out. Give me something unsolvable and I'll solve it if it kills me.
"Another weakness that no amount of martial arts, dance, or gymnastics could fix is that I am very clumsy. It's not uncommon to see my trip over thin air. I always seem fine while dueling or practising martial arts, but in everyday life walking is very dangerous for me."
She her index to her chin, organising the last of her thoughts. "I'm very good at speaking English, but I know almost nothing about the culture here and it's hard for me to tell when something is a joke or a play on words and when something is literal. I'm also not very social, though I'm friendly. I just prefer books and scrolls. One of my other strengths is that I am very adept at adapting any situation and environment. My old Martial Magic instructor said I was like a chameleon that way and that I had mastered the art of adapting quicker than he did. He thought I should have gone into law enforcement, but as much as I love adventures, I'm more suited to books and mysteries."
Naoke stopped, going over everything. She was sure she'd hit all that was important. She nodded decisively and said a quick, "That's all. Thank you." And bowed respectfully before taking her seat and promptly toppling backwards, chair included.
With her robes around her head, she quickly righted the seat, stood up, adjusted her robes and carefully sat down. "Sorry," she said quickly and sat as straight as if she were wearing a corset. |
