I think I'd have to know exactly what passage she picked to read. But even so, to hear a passage from the end of the book that mentions certain characters is a spoiler in itself, for you would then know that those characters survived. Guh. It sounds like they were trying to do good and to unite the students before leaving, but I don't think that's a good way to do it - there are 6 other books that deal with goodbyes that they could've chosen from!
