Okay, so either JKR has an evil streak to her and whats us all to lay awake at night thinking about this or its a huge clue. I'm going with the latter on this one, she strikes me as a smart woman and this is pretty clever.
I read a post a couple of months ago with a theory saying that Snape is still on the good side and was acting under Dumbledore's orders. The theory was pretty solid and i agree with it so i'm thinking that Snape will die protecting Harry. Quite an ironic end in the end after the years of bitterness...
