| Zephyr Amstern, Ravenclaw (seeker) + Hugo Vexmoor, Slytherin (chaser) Baguette | there is no D in my name | TRAITORclaw | Queenie of Narnia After yet another very successful summer on Ireland's U-17 team, Zephyr was more than eager for tryouts to begin once again at Hogwarts.
A few warm-up stretches, and then he was off, mounting his broom and kicking himself into the sky. He zoomed onward and upward, smiling as the wind whistled past him, falling into the rhythm of flight as easily as a fish took to water.
He guided his broom to the perimeter of the pitch, having decided that a lap would be a good way to start off. He raced forward, ascending and descending at various points throughout, sometimes to dodge other fliers, sometimes just for the heck of it. All part of the warm-up.
Zephyr slowed after he passed his starting point then veered sharply toward the center of the pitch, as if he'd spotted the snitch. His speed picked up, the other side of the pitch rapidly approaching. Then he abruptly pulled up, shooting upwards for several meters before pushing sideways and twisting into a roll, slowing once he was sitting upright once more. "Enjoy it," Cloggs had said. Zephyr couldn't imagine not. --- Eager didn't begin to describe Hugo's feelings about Quidditch tryouts.
He was SO ready to prove himself. After training extra hard over the summer, he was more determined than ever to not just make the team, but actually be a starting player. Reserve was better than nothing - sorta - but after two years of it at Beauxbatons, he wanted to show that he had what it took. He'd promised it to his dad and everything. Whether his dad believed him, Hugo wasn't sure, but it was even more reason to work hard and make him proud.
He did some stretches, and once the whistle was blown, he quickly mounted his broom and rose into the air.
Hugo flew aimlessly for a few seconds, debating in his head which warm-ups to go for first, before deciding to practice his speed control.
He guided his broom up, picking up speed as he continued to rise higher, higher, higher - then he pulled back. The abruptness of the slow down was a little wobbly, but it worked. He repeated this several times, alternating between rising up and pointing toward the ground - though, uh, he didn't increase his speed quite as much as when he rose upward. But he could feel himself improving, growing steadier and more in control each time.
His expression was serious throughout, focused as he was, but there was a sparkle of joy in his blue eyes too. Quidditch was serious business, but it was fun too.
