“Baek, Ji-Ho!”
The eleven year old’s ears perked up. It was his turn! The time was finally here! It was simply different from how Baek pictured it. Sure, the setting was accurate - the incoming first years, the overall nervous and excited energy from them, the agonionising wait, being in front of the entire school… but he found that he was more plagued with anticipation and happiness about the prospect of being Sorted. In other words, nervousness took a back seat.
Baek mumbled a few ‘excuse me’s as he hurried out of the line, scooped up the Hat with gentleness and sat to be Sorted. He wished his eomeoni could be present for this moment. Oh well. He’d just have to write to her in great detail about his experience.
“Hmmm,” the Hat’s voice began, quite startling poor Baek. There was a hearty chuckle from it. “Not to worry, you’re in safe hands. Though I have none!”
It was his turn to chuckle, his hands clasped neatly in his lap.
“Ah, I see lots of patience. Lots and lots of it. A strong determination to always be as fair as possible to everyone you come in contact with.”
Baek tilted his head just a smidge, careful not to let the Hat tilt in such a manner that it would be jostled from its resting spot over his head and eyes. He had already read up on the traits of the Houses and knew exactly which those belonged to.
Another chuckle. “I see there’s a small degree of thirst for knowledge. And for that you’re willing to put in the hard work. Yes, I know just where to place you…
“HUFFLEPUFF!”
The last word almost ruptured Baek’s eardrum, but he was grinning as he pulled off the Hat. Before he knew it, he was making his way to House Table. |
