astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf The moment the leak finally slowed to a manageable trickle beneath her improvised repair job, Iris allowed herself exactly half a second of relief before noticing the steadily spreading water still sluggishly expanding across the stone floor around the basin and toward someone's bag.
Her eyes snapped the remaining immobilized clips scattered across her desk, and despite herself, a small thread of academic curiosity briefly interrupted the chaos. She was already working with transfigured matter now — sponge and sealant both originating from altered metal of a theoretically miscast spell. Recent theoretical texts she'd read recently disagreed rather aggressively on whether repeated transfiguration weakened structural integrity through magical dilution or whether stability depended more upon preservation of intended function between transformations.
Unfortunately, now was perhaps not the ideal time to conduct any sort of experimentation and the sixth year was betting on intention ― particularly after the lecture prior.
Iris snatched up two more clips then, "Exigo Mutatio."
The first unraveled almost instantly into a thick deep purple colored towel, softening as it expanded until it dropped heavily into her hands. She arranged it quickly along the floor beside the basin to catch the remaining drips of spill as they came every 20 second or so, the fabric darkening as it absorbed the water.
The second clip transfigured in the same manner, only this time in a rich charcoal gray color. Inhaling nice and slow, the blonde used the large ― but incredibly thin ― towel to absorb the puddle, draping it over the largest portion of the liquid offense and using the corers to dab at the bits that escaped it.
Once the basin appeared unlikely to catastrophically burst apart any further and the water spreading no further, Iris finally straightened from where she had been crouched, absently wiping damp fingertips against the side of her skirt.
Nearby, Cat's button had transformed into a small wooden block with such abrupt, forceful finality that Iris’ attention snapped toward her almost immediately. The spell itself had worked wonderfully, but there had been something sharp underneath it. A flash of frustration intense enough that Iris found herself studying the younger girl for an extra second with quiet concern. Plus, of all the orchestrated chaos Professor Voss had unleashed — Harvey attempting to rescue falling glass with a spongey cushion, Kara negotiating with the structural integrity of a desk, Wesley preventing the chandelier from reenacting something out of a Gaston Leroux novel, Rory waging heroic battle of cleanliness against an advancing ink spill (her uncle's worst nightmare) — Cat's particular nemesis had apparently been... a button.
Her own crisis well in hand, Iris made her way towards the third year and leaned over, not quite brushing shoulders with her but close enough to create the illusion of a private conversation.
"That button had it coming," she nodded quietly. The corner of her mouth tugged faintly upward then softened again as her attention returned properly to the fair-haired mortal lass, bright blue eyes searching her face a little more carefully beneath the humor. "...getting on alright?"

Reason: SOMEONE (read: Iris) was indecisive about towel colors. So here we are
