FROM BASE TO BLUSH: A TWO-TEXTURE VALENTINE GLOW AVATAR GUIDE
Valentine's Day celebratory avatar invasions in 2026

If you were on site during the weekend of Valentine's Day 2026, you may have noticed (and received!) a surprise avatar invasion courtesy of Gladrags Wizardwear

This tutorial walks you step-by-step through how those avatars were created so you can recreate the look yourself. The beauty of this method? It’s simple, beginner-friendly, and only requires two textures layered over a base image.

All you need:
  • Image editing software (Photoshop, GIMP, etc.)
  • A base image
  • Two texture files

For full transparency, I used Adobe Photoshop Elements 9, but any program that allows layer blending modes (Soft Light, Screen, etc.) will work just fine.

Text Cut: step-by-step process!

1. DOWNLOAD ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

candycrack on DeviantArt

Download the two textures above. We'll use:
  • A soft pink/yellow blended texture (cookiestome)
  • A gradient texture (candycrack)
These two layers are what create that dreamy Valentine glow.

2. CREATE A NEW IMAGE FILE
Create a new document sized 100 x 100 pixels.

3. FIND A BASE IMAGE
Search for something festive and Valentine-themed. I used "Valentine's Day stock image" to locate mine.

For this tutorial, I'll demonstrate using these two bases:

Optional (but recommended):
When working with lighter textures, duplicating your base image and setting the duplicated layer to Soft Light before adding any textures can help preserve contrast and prevents the image from becoming overly washed out once overlays are added.

For this walkthrough, that step has already been applied to both examples.

4. APPLY THE TEXTURE FROM COOKIESTOME AND SET TO SOFT LIGHT
Place the cookiestome texture on top of your base image. Set the blending mode to Soft Light. You can experiment with: Lowering opacity for a gentler tint, trying Overlay for stronger contrast, experiment with other blending modes, or reordering layers for different warmth levels

For the 2026 Valentine avatars, I kept it simple and left the texture at Soft Light.

5. APPLY THE TEXTURE FROM CANDYCRACK AND SET TO SCREEN
Now add the candycrack gradient texture as your new top layer. Set this blending mode to Screen. Screen brightens and softens, giving the avatar that light, airy Valentine finish.

For these examples I made no opacity changes, but did rotate the gradient 90° so the pink sat along the bottom rather than the side. Feel free to rotate, flip, or adjust opacity until the placement complements your base image best.

At this stage, you'll likely notice softer contrast, a cohesive pink wash, and a dreamy glowy Valentine vibe ― all from just two textures!

6. SAVE YOUR WORK AND WEAR YOUR CREATION WITH PRIDE
That's it! Sometimes less really is more

If you download the texture packs linked above from both creators, you can easily use this same method to create other seasonal edits, House pride recolors, or simply experiment with different soft overlays and gradients. A simple texture or gradient swap can completely shift the vibe!
