Viv was sweating profusely as she leaned over her cauldron, the jalapeņo fumes biting at her nose. She diced the pepper with determination, hoping she didn't mess this up, and added it to the shimmering water. The fire salamander skin had already turned the potion a brilliant orange-red, and Viv had to admit that it was rather mesmerising. But there's no time for romantic stargazing. She gave the mixture one last cautious stir, just as Professor Carter announced that time was up.
Phew. She wished the professor a good evening as she hurriedly packed her parchment, gloves and goggles into her bag. She caught up with the rest of the class on the way to the Great Hall, her stomach growling louder than her cauldron. She had no idea if her potion would sparkle, boom or fizzle.
Almost like her own fireworks.
