Or worse, a cruel wizard with a cruel wand? He didn't know what to expect, really, with two muggle parents and two magical siblings. Ashley and Brandon had never wanted to talk about it, and then all of a sudden they kept trying to catch him alone and tell him about Hogwarts and ask how he was doing and... he was just nervous, alright? He was just nervous.

Ash had been going on about getting married for around 20 minutes, and he would have normally been incredibly bored (not that he would EVER tell her that), but hey- it took his mind off his wand fitting just a little, and that was nice. Brandon, however, was staring straight at him, and that didn't help at all. Charlie tried to stay still as a measuring tape worked on him, but he was quite uncomfortable.

Still, nothing that a little hasty magical repair-work on the handful of collapsed shelves in back, and a careful organisation operation, wouldn't take care of. The latter was underway now, and Zeke was doing his very best not to hover, and to have faith in the apprentices to take care of it.

His very best. Nobody liked a micromanager, even if he was positively itching to go back there and take control help. There was a system, see.

Fortunately for everyone, the shop floor still needed tending, and the busy summer period meant that Zeke still had plenty of regular work with which to occupy himself. He'd just finished up with his last customer and flicked the drawer of the cash register shut with a ding!, when the parchment came to meet him. Zeke plucked it out of the air and gave it a quick once over as he moved across to the next in line.

"Hello there," he said, lowering the parchment and smiling at the boy over the top of it. "All set? Let's see what we can do for you."

Setting the parchment aside, he moved to the left-hand wall and considered the shelves and the wand boxes upon them, before making his decision and taking one down. Opening up the box, Zeke turned back to his young customer and presented the wand nestled inside. "Know what to do? Just give it a wave, and we'll see what's what. Let me know if it feels right, or if you'd like to try another."

With everyone that he loved in his entire life (minus his best friend) surrounding him, Charlie felt his skin crawling. Did they really ALL have to be here? He couldn't imagine asking any one of them to leave- they were his family, after all, and he wouldn't change them for the world -but he was nervous nonetheless. The shopkeeper's voice was a relief, and this young Fox-Matthews stepped up to take the wand with a look that said Please rescue me from my adoring family members who love me very much. While Charlie just a few years ago would have snatched the thing right out of the box, eleven-year-old Charlie picked it up gently with a quiet, "Thank you." He had manners now, you know.

Charlie waved the wand with a quiet but determined flick.

...

And another quiet but determined swish?

...

"That's normal, right?" Because his brother had explained previously that the wands weren't defective, and presently Charlie was wondering if perhaps he was the defective one. Please reassure him that he was still a wizard, Mr. Shopkeeper??? Thank god Greg had managed to talk his mum out of taking a picture of him waving a wand that was obviously not his own.
