Oh, she knew her mother had control issues. That was never a question. It drove Quinn insane that her mother could be so...stubborn, so thoughtless. All she wanted to do was help, but her mother was appalled she would even suggest a potion. Was offended, even. And then Quinn wondered why she even bothered in the first place, why she even cared anymore—she shouldn't have to and didn't want to, after everything her mother did. But for some stupid reason, she cared, no matter how much it hurt her. So maybe she was like her mother in that way. Stubborn. "If only," she said with a halfhearted smile.

Quinn's smile turned genuine at Cooper's words. Petting Tofu was great, but sometimes having someone just there with you who understands could be just as comforting. And Quinn had both in this moment. So she was very appreciative. "Thank you," she told Cooper warmly, and then looked down at ickle Tofu. "And thank you," she cooed, giving him more ear scritches. Tofu's purring rumbled against her chest as he leaned his head into her hand. "Whatever his magic is, it's working," Quinn said with a small laugh. "This little guy is a Grade-A cat wizard."

"Ah. Cooper," Quinn said with a snap, "I knew it was something with a C." She waved her hand dismissively, laughing just a bit. "And I will not be calling you Colin. A much worse name in my opinion. Just don't go telling that to any Colins." She was half serious about this, too—she'd never name her child Colin if she were to have one. But Cooper wouldn't be the worst choice. She gave him a cheeky smile. "It's nice to meet you again, too." Quinn nodded as he continued, absently petting the kitten that still lay in her arms. "Yeah, I don't blame anyone's parents, either. I wouldn't blame mine if they'd transferred me out because of the war—I had to beg them to let me stay at Hogwarts, actually," Quinn said, suddenly remembering that tidbit after not having thought about it in a while. "But they took me out after my third year, not my first. For wholly unrelated reasons." Quinn gave a small shrug, not wanting to elaborate further. But she did blame them for their reasoning. At the mention of...the room, Quinn looked down at Tofu. After a moment, she nodded. "Yeah. I was. If you remember a little sad blonde kid with liar branded into their forehead...that was probably me," she sighed, trying to not feel uncomfortable talking about it. She knew that she should...Quinn had never really talked about it. "Not to be confused with my friend Eden, though. She was 70% mad, 30% sad, I was 70% sad, 30% mad, so together we were 200% emotional," she said, trying to laugh but not able to get it out right. "I do remember your stories, though. They were...well, one of the only redeeming qualities about that place. So...thanks for getting yourself thrown down there, I guess?" This time she laughed genuinely, but then she stopped herself. "I'm sorry. Still not funny." She was never sure how to talk about that year of her life. All the things she'd experienced. Just saying them out in the open, very to-the-point, felt like throwing a stinky dead fish at somebody's face. So Quinn always felt the need to try and make it humorous whenever it was brought up in conversation. More palatable that way, even though you're still getting hit in the face with a dead fish.
