Lowkey catch-up Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ ❄ Showtunes > Everything ❄ ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Desiree watched intently as Professor Fergersnout revealed the symbol on the board. Oh, so she was mistaken about it being the Ministry's M shaped symbol. It was more of a W shape, but no matter. The International Confederation of Wizards sounded like a much more interesting topic than the Ministry, anyway!
She considered the next set of questions carefully, but she couldn’t think of a single purpose for the International Confederation of Wizards that her classmates hadn’t already mentioned. Instead, she chose to focus on the other part of the question: issues that had come up in the past. If troll rights had come up as an issue in Pierre Bonaccord’s day, it stood to reason that other creatures’ rights had been discussed over the years… but that seemed too obvious to say out loud.
For now, she decided to keep quiet and listen to her classmates’ answers instead. One of them (Archie’s) got her thinking. If the International Confederation of Wizards had tried to apprehend Gellert Grindelwald, had they tried to intervene in Voldemort’s rise to power too? And if so, why didn’t the Confederation step in to stop Lucien Rosier? Was he not considered world-renowned enough to warrant action?
Desiree remained lost in thought until Professor Fergersnout’s voice jerked her back to reality. Oh, so they were going to debate… just not in the way she originally thought. She had to admit, picking a topic from a goblet of fire replica sounded fun! Now if she were a member of the International Confederation of Wizards, what topics would she want to discuss at a conference?
She absentmindedly swished her quill back and forth as she pondered the question. Her thoughts kept going back to criminals of the past. Grindelwald, Voldemort, Rosier, and if she recalled correctly, there had been an incident with an American pro-muggleborn cult around the time her mother and father taught at Hogwarts… that was entirely too many incidents involving prejudiced zealots within only a couple of centuries! An idea come to her, and she jotted down: How to handle blood supremacist ideology: what can be done to prevent prejudiced groups/individuals (either pro-pureblood or pro-muggleborn) from rising to power? When to intervene vs. when to respect free speech?
