It stood there, quite still for a moment, as though sizing the human up. Then, without warning, it opened its mouth and bellowed a roar directly in his face. Was the boy going to cry now?
Sohrin had hoped it wouldn't detect any fear and would pass on to the next person. But that was just wishful thinking on his part. Instead, the previous fear it had transformed into was now changing so quickly that Sohrin barely had time to react.
With his fear in front of him, the eleven-year-old's hand trembled as he lifted his wand.
"R-riddi---Riddiku----" But before he could think of any of his earlier ideas, the giant sea monster opened its large wide mouth, and the young Ravenclaw acted reflexively.
He let out a terrified yelp, accidentally dropped his wand to the floor, and wrapped his arms around his head as if it could protect him. He wanted to get up and leave the room, but his body seemed to be frozen in place. He didn't want to face his fear; he just wanted someone to help him.
