Speaking of, he needed to send James a reminder about his next appointment so Jericho was not accidentally stood up again. Bit flighty, that blond, but making great strides.

"Ah, absolutely majestic creatures, aren't they?" he smiled. "And so remarkably like us as well. Thrive in the company of others and the bonds they form and suffer in loneliness, capable of great empathy and spending time with them can quite literally heal an anxious heart." Truly, he could go on about the wonders of the creatures and some of the honest to goodness miracles he had witnessed between the horses on the ranch and visitors. "It would be my pleasure to host sometime." So, Ruby could consider that invitation wide open and she need only RSVP when ready and available.

Jericho chuckled and shook his head, the combination seeming to cause his freckles to dance upon his cheeks and around his eyes. "No judgements here. Everyone should have their preference of ice cream with no shame," he assured her with a wink as he pushed off from the table to head inside to fetch her that scoop of mint chocolate chip and settle on something for himself.

There was a little bit of a queue inside, but he was returning to their table soon enough with a scoop each in a cup. He had briefly contemplated while in the queue going back outside to ask whether she would prefer a cone, and which one, or cup but concluded soon enough that to spare them sticky fingers and a messy tabletop while they chatted. Returning to their table, his serene smile as wide as ever, Jericho passed her ice cream to her with a gentle slide across the table and slid back into his own seat with his own scoop of lemondrop sorbet. Balancing his cup on his left palm, Jericho slipped his sandals off so he could pull his feet up on to his chair. Yes, sometimes he preferred to sit as a toddler might in their seat but what was so wrong with a youthful display every now and then? His toes curled over the rim of his seat and moved his cup of ice cream on his knee while dipping his spoon in for a bite. "So, Ruby, you mentioned growing up around horses, yes? Did your family own its own ranch or was it by other accommodations that you were so blessed?"

“You can tell exactly how they are feeling just by looking into their eyes.” It had become a comfort thing in her youth to go brush a horses mane whenever she was feeling particularly anxious. Either that or take one of the numerous dogs down for a walk along the shoreline. Barefooted of course which Jericho might have been pleased to hear, she was no city girl despite now living in London. “I’d love that” A soft pink colour returned to her cheeks at the open invitation. Truly an afternoon surrounded by such company sounded ideal.

The biggest issue that Ruby had with navigating relationships as an adult was her inability to talk about herself. She was usually one to follow in a conversation rather than instigate, her listening abilities were impeccable and her empathy could only be second to her mothers. It made her particularly skilled at her career but also meant she was prone to burnout and a lack of ever putting herself first. It had taken considerable persuasion from a much more confident sister to even get her here today. The brief moment she had alone whilst Jericho moved to fetch their ice creams was filled with a replay of everything that Tabitha had said to her before leaving.

Had the conversation not slipped effortlessly over to her family, Ruby would’ve enquired more into Jericho’s fascinating collection of skills he had acquired. The shift in his position, his bare bare feet exposed and knees up to his chin brought a somewhat amused but fond smile to the former Ravenclaws face. She scooped her spoon into the tub and took a bite with instant memories of her childhood down in Cornwall flooding back to her. “It’s a bit of a long story.” she mused. It was one she was happy to tell however. “My Mum has always had a fondness for horses and grew up riding them. My Dad however is from an entirely different background and grew up quite impoverished on a council estate in Brixton. When they married my Mum decided to keep horses of her own which grew to rescuing more and eventually we had an entire stables worth of them” she chuckled. “My younger sister Holly was adopted from a similar background to my Dad’s and was so withdrawn to start with but grew in confidence once she started helping around the horses. So they decided to implement a programme for children like her at the stables. They’d learn everything from how to muck out, grooming, health care and of course riding all funded by us.” Altruism definitely ran in the family.

“Is rescuing animals a familial thing for you too?” She asked once again delving into her Mint Choc Chip.
