Norman nodded politely in reply to Celeste’s greeting. He listened to the students’ answers, more than a little relieved that no one had mentioned Polyjuice potion. Merlin, don’t give anyone that idea! He’d had enough Polyjuice shenanigans for one lifetime! His thoughts turned to his first day teaching at Hogwarts, how he’d watched who he thought was Malachi Trent transform into Lucien Rosier as the polyjuice potion wore off.
But now wasn’t the time to dwell on that! Still bringing up the rear, he set the hamper he was moving down as the group arrived in the meadow. Eyes scanning the area, he wandered toward the end of the meadow nearest the Forbidden Forest so he could keep an eye out for students sneaking off. While he was there, he may as well make himself useful and help gather fluxweed. He roamed the area, not bothering to cast Lumos out of his old Auror instinct to not draw attention to himself. Besides, the moon was pretty bright anyway.
He spotted the tall plant with pointy leaves and purple flowers and carefully picked it, placing in in his satchel. When the satchel was full, he made his way back to the middle of the meadow just in time to see the picnic laid out. “Wow, you’ve really outdone yourself!” he said to the herbology professor.
Desiree smiled at Professor Gert’s greeting. She noticed the astronomy professor’s nod when she gave her answer; that was an encouraging sign that she was on the right track. Although she was confident that her Vaxifloo guess was correct, she couldn't help but beam when Professor Devries confirmed it. She followed the group down the path to the meadow, moving her hamper along with her wand as she went. She set the hamper down next to the professor and stood off to the side to listen, smiling as Vera joined her.
Okay, tall plant, pointy green leaves, small purple flowers. Got it! Of course, Desiree had seen illustrations of fluxweed in her textbooks, but the way Professor Devries described it made it sound even prettier in person. Hmm, he said it was a tall plant… is it even taller than him? She thought as she wandered off in search of fluxweed.
She strolled down the path, musing to herself how beautiful and romantic the light of the full moon was. If only she had a Prince Charming! The sight of a pretty purple flower distracted her from her daydream (nightdream?). Was it-? She took a slicer look. Yes, fluxweed! She picked the plant, gently placing each piece in her satchel. She’d gathered a little more than half a satchel full when she noticed a light out of the corner of her eye. No, not moonlight. This was something else!
She followed the light back to the meadow. Ooh, fairy lights! So pretty! Her eyes lit up at the sight of the fairy lights and picnic. “Thank you for the picnic, Professor!” she said, helping herself to a few cookies and cakes.
