<.< >,> v.v ^,^! Auden slid off her seat in one quick movement as she rushed forward to claim one of the unmarked hearts on the Professor’s desk. No way was she writing on the one she’d been given. Aside from the valentine care package she’d received from her family, it was the only one she’d received this year. So suffice to say, she was most definitely keeping it.
Setting it carefully into her book bag, the eleven year old grabbed her quill and fiddled with it between her fingertips as she stared off into space… or well in this case into the myriad of streamers and decorations. What did she love the smell of…
Taking inspiration from what the professor said she added her first response in careful small handwriting to the back of the heart valentine. 1. Petrichor
Hopefully the Professor wouldn’t think she was being lazy and unoriginal. She really did love the smell of rain, wet soil-specifically before it rained where she was but you could tell the rain was on the way soon. When the ozone was almost metallic in its scent and you could hear the distant rumbles of thunder all while inhaling that crisp air. Auden’s chest rose and fell slowly as she tried to imagine the scent. Yup, for sure one of her favorites. What else?
Well thinking about the rain, made her think of summer days reading in her favorite window nook of her grandparents’ home. And thinking of that reminded her of the other smell she loved. The scent of Fabuloso. A muggle house hold cleaning solution her grandmother, or Tita as she was called by her grandchildren, loved to use for mopping. Just thinking about it made a small ache of homesickness settle in her stomach as she wrote out her second response. 2. Fabuloso
Most days the sheer shock and awe of her magical surroundings, left her with not much room for homesickness but sometimes…like right now- it hit hard. Blinking hard against the mist of tears in her eyes, the eleven year old thought hard about what her third favorite smell could be…
Thinking about sitting on her window seat reminded her of the other smells of home. Her dad barbecuing, the smell of carne asada on the grill? No… she did love it but not Looooove it with a capital L.
The scent of a new cup of chamomile tea? She did feel loved when her mother used to make her a Te de Manzanilla whenever she was having a bad day but again not top three. Or maybe her father's eucalyptus after shave? Oooooh or freshly laundered sheets?!Nothing quite beat the feel of being freshly showered and slipping into newly laundered cotton sheets that smelled of Suavitel. 3. …
Heaving a big sigh under the weight of more homesickness, the young witch hung her head a bit. This assignment was harder than she thought. |
