Even with her own twin she'd tried to open up very little, because he had a way of wearing his emotions more easily and adding any of her own negative ones just seemed a burden. Which was why she always tried to be so obnoxiously positive and annoying to provide distractions from sadness. Which... maybe also made her not the best person to comfort for her people.

It was all a lot to think about and she'd grown rather quiet, before remembering she was in company and this was not the time or place. So instead... she'd just focus on the creatures part of their discussion again. That was less confusing and easier to talk on. "I think for the mean time I'll focus on boring poor Sass with my issues. And hope that if they're capable of growing sick of their humans," Which why would they not be? "She isn't yet. And hopefully won't be soon." Her own emotions and her relationship to them was... confusing she supposed. It wasn't that she saw an issue with people being vulnerable, but there were so many things lurking beneath the surface she had just kept pushing down that she worried if she addressed them now they'd bury her. It was... easier to go on as she was, without even actually mentioning anything she felt to her snake despite what she said. "Have you found your person? To talk to about things, I mean?" As for the debate of wild vs domestic... he DID have a point there, some animals did seek assistance. So perhaps the simplification was the correct way of thinking about it. "Fair enough!"

Truly, truly the smartest thing she'd ever done. Which when the list of these accomplishments was small, she was happy to bask in the praise of one. "Thanks! He's a good bird too. We don't make him travel as far as owls, though he'd probably be fine too, but he'll carry some notes too for us from our house to my Papa here in Diagon Alley." It was often the easiest way of reaching Renner if he didn't happen to have his two way mirror on him. "Having a zoo for a house though sounds like the best!" Maybe only next to a chocolatier who kept them very well stocked on sweets. "What does your dad do for work as a dragonologist? I think that sounds like a really interesting job. And the danger sounds exciting too." Which might have been insensitive to say since it was his father and perhaps the danger part was more scary than thrilling. Mackenzie's response about the temperament of bearded dragons was pretty much lost on her as he pulled his pet from his pocket. Hazel eyes went WIDE as she leaned closer and looked at the little fella. "He is so CUTE." She gushed, her voice dropping a bit out of respect for the sleepy reptile. "Does he go everywhere with you?"

The silence that came from the bubbly and lively Vera that he met just moments ago made Mackenzie wonder. He stared at her, wondering what could possibly be going on in her mind. A monologue, perhaps? Or... did he just strike a sensitive chord in her? Nevertheless, Mackenzie was certain that it made Vera think. What exactly, he couldn't be sure.

Opting not to press any further, he took the subject change gladly and shifted his mind to the other subject at hand. "I hear you," Mackenzie said with a hint of a smile. "But I do hope you find your people soon," the Slytherin had a theory from spending so much time people-watching, which was that the happier a person seemed to be, the more lonely they actually feel. With Vera being a happy person plus the fact that she has a comfort pet, well, it did tell Mackenzie a lot. But then again, he was not one to pry. "Hmm, outside of the family? No, I'm afraid not." Mackenzie admitted pursing his lips. "I don't trust people easily, but I have no trouble talking to my dad about things... and my older sister." Catherine was his go-to if their dad was not available to talk. And she's been MIA because of university, and the letters had been scarce. Perhaps, it was the reason too why he'd decided to expand his circle of friends just a tad. Maybe he'd find someone trustworthy. Eventually.

Ravens or crows were indeed quite unusual birds to use for letters and such, but then again, magically trained pets can do anything. "That's pretty unusual, but it makes letter-sending cool," he said. "I remember Dad told us a story about Mum sending him a letter and package by means of a badger." Mackenzie shook his head smiling at the absurdity of it, plus the fact that they'd both argue the validity of the story on who actually sent what. They are complete opposites, personality-wise (which often drives his Dad mad), but at the same time, they are crazy in love with each other. Speaking of his dad, "As a dragonologist, he's helped rehabilitate juvenile dragons take flight after rescuing from poachers, re-homing dragons when needed especially those that are dangerously too close to muggle settlements. He's also assisted in helping particular species of dragons whenever they do their migration from the north to the south pole too. It's pretty cool." Mackenzie said proudly, wondering if he should follow in his dad's footsteps. "He's currently in the Ministry now as the head of the Beast Division. He's sort of stretched his expertise to other magical creatures who needed rescuing or rehabilitation." Mackenzie's pretty sure there was a lot more going on in his dad's line of work, but because some of his duties were bound by secrecy, he really couldn't paint a full picture for Vera at this time.

"Morpheus? Yes, he gets bored in his tank and would rather be outside of it with me. He's an outdoor kind of dragon." Mackenzie said, offering his other pet to her. "Would you like to carry him?"
