Finding nothing terribly untoward occurring in the measuring area, he allowed himself a smile and returned to the shop floor proper.
Once he was armed with the final measurements, not to mention a selection of wands for this customer to try, Zeke finally joined the girl and her chaperone. "Hello, hello," he greeted them both with his customary geniality. "Let's see if we can't get you matched with a wand, shall we?"
This was where the boxes came into it. Obviously. Zeke opened up the first and offered the wand inside. "Give this a wave, and we'll see what's what. Sound good?" Ivy idly wondered why half of these measurements were even necessary, and asked her grandmother as much. Surely only her hands and arms mattered? What different did her nostrils make? Or her ears? Or her kneecaps? It seemed so silly. But then Grandma wouldn't stop talking about the wonderful and curious art of wandmaking and Ivy felt distinct regret. She didn't care this much, really, but she couldn't stop her once she got going.
The eleven year old was therefore relieved when the wandmaker approached them, and Grandma fell silent. At long last. "Hello sir," Ivy replied politely, even bowing a little (because Grandma said respect is universal) and nodded at the wandmaker's words. She eyed the boxes with interest, halfheartedly trying to sense which were the dragon wands. When that didn't work, Ivy took the offered wand. "Does this have a dr-" Ivy began, and stopped short when it began to grow warm in her hand, and a delicate gold mist seemed to pour out from the tip. It glittered. "Oh, this is beautiful!" Ivy whispered in awe, feeling that warmth even in her stomach. Then she frowned. "Wait- does this mean it's mine? This means it's mine, it has to be mine. But I didn't get to try any of those other wands!" Ivy's frown deepened, but she clutched the wand to her chest all the same. Could she try with her other hand just to see? It couldn't be over so quickly!
