There was absolutely no way that Aurora was going to pick one of the weird flavours that Florean’s offered. She questioned whether anyone actually tried any of them anyway. Wasn’t the point in having ice cream was that it was a delicious treat to be enjoyed? No one wanted troll bogies! “Would I ever do that to my big sister?” she looked up at Ari innocently. Truth be told she wouldn’t, especially if it meant she could share. “Treacle fudge it is!” she grinned. If they were going to share then it would go nicely with Rora’s Cauldron Cakes flavour rather than the lemon which might have been a bit too bitter for the sweet loving child.
Yes, Aurora LOVED strawberries too, especially in ice cream form where it was her favourite shade of bubblegum pink but she still didn’t understand the point in it being low sugar too. “But why can’t it be strawberry AND full of sugar?” Surely that would be superior?
The Ravenclaw watched as her sister placed her hands on her Ma’s shoulder and did her best to conceal the delighted giggle coming out her mouth. Layla was engrossed in her work enough that she hadn’t noticed the patter of feet sneaking up behind her or the attempt at disguising a giggle from a perpetually happy eleven year old who found it difficult to conceal her joy. The hands on her shoulders were however enough to pull her out of her distraction and into the real world. She visibly jumped, raising her fists ready to fight off the attack. What would be attacking her in an ice cream parlour was unknown but the Wizarding World was a dangerous place and having grown up on the estates of London, Layla was unfortunately familiar with how to protect herself from harm.
She was relieved to see a pair of beaming blondes looking back at her as she swivelled round in her chair. “Don’t do that! I could’ve hit you” she lectured although it was followed by a small smile that was only familiar to her family. The woman, who had insisted for several years that she didn’t want to have children, was so happily settled into family life that she was pretty sure her kids could get away with anything if they really wanted to. Nope, no gnomes in this family. With genes like Mommy Bambi's and Ma Layla's, Ariadne was confident that there would absolutely be no way they'd have a gnome for a sibling.
Ariadne would also be relieved to know that she and her sister had the same mindset on ice cream flavours. Suppose the brave taste adventurers can have a go at those, but not this girl. "I wouldn't know. As much as I adore you, I actually can't read your mind," the older Ackerly teased with a smile as she tucked some of Rora's hair behind her ear. But she appreciated it, of course. She wouldn't do the same to Rora. "Ooh, love me some treacle fudge." It was a solid flavour, definitely on the sweeter side that Ma Layla would likely make a face at, but Ariadne would remind their Ma that it's not everyday they went out for ice cream in Diagon Alley. Might as well make the most out of it.
"It most certainly can be," Ariadne gently reminded Rora, that regular strawberry ice cream was still very much a real flavour. "I assume they'd use sugar substitutes for them. I think it's good to have a sugar-free option for those who want a healthier choice...and for people like Ma, or else she'd never get to enjoy ice cream!" The sixteen year old made it a point to exaggerate the way her eyes widened at that. But Ma did deserve ice cream too, okay? Even if the sugar was absent.
Also, she was definitely not sorry for the reaction on Ma Layla's face after the sisters managed to surprise her. When she saw Ma's raised fists, Ariadne lifted her own hands too to shield them just in case, her boxing instincts kicking in for the moment. She knew Ma wouldn't hurt them, but still. "Gotcha, Ma," Ariadne pressed a quick kiss to Ma's cheek, as if that were some kind of apology for scaring her.
Merlin, Ma was still working? That's fair, she supposed, but it was a lovely day outside. "What are you working on? Rora and I want ice cream." Ariadne said, offering her cutest and most practiced 'please, Ma' smile as she claimed the seat closest to her and tugged Rora along to sit beside her.
