Then again, maybe this one also stuck in his memory because he recognised her as the girl he had noticed now and again through the front window of the shop. He suspected he had been observed even more often than that. "Hello there," Zeke said in a kindly voice, joining his customer as the enchanted parchment with its measurements - which had dogged his steps since seeking him out - flew off to rejoin the measuring tape. "I have some wands here for you to try," he added, setting down the wand boxes he'd just gathered one by one, and keeping hold of the last, which was soon relieved of its lid. "Give this a wave, and tell me if it feels right." With that, Zeke held the box out, offering the wand inside. It's true, Flo had definitely been observing the happenings of Ollivander's for summers, but still she didn't anticipate how tall the wandmaker was. It was entirely different up front, because now she was staring up at him. Only after a beat or two did she look at the man's hands and then the boxes of wands he'd been carrying. One of those was going to be her wand, and somehow she really hoped she'd match with the first wand so she can make her visit fast and easy.
Flo nodded as she listened and kept her attention on the man, still holding onto herself. "What is it supposed to do, sir?" The eleven year old asked quietly, staring at the wand being offered to her for a moment before taking it in her hand. Was she supposed to expect confetti? Or produce bubbles? Or conjure a flower? Yes, she had been watching what the other kids have made with their wands. She saw most of them. Suppose she was to be excited about making something happen for the first time with a wand, but not being able to anticipate the what was a whole other dilemma.
Calm down, Flo. Let's make this quick.
After inspecting the wand, Flo held it firmly and, as the wandmaker said, gave it a wave. Nothing happened. Her brows furrowed slightly, thinking maybe she did the wave wrong, and then waved the wand again. Still nothing. "It's doing nothing." How was she supposed to know if it felt right when it wasn't doing anything?
