Post 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' Toronto show closing permanently this July

The Toronto production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child announced it will close permanently in the large Canadian city on July 2. More information is below; tickets are still available now till closing day.

There is no word yet on if the show is moving to another Canadian city, or if this is the conclusion of the show in Canada altogether.

Producer David Mirvish told the Canadian Press that low ticket sales, COVID protocols, plus high production value were the reasons around the closure:

Quote:
"It usually takes about a year (to) find a show that's appropriate to put in a theatre that closes when you're not planning to."

"Every time we do one of these open-ended runs, we know that this is what we'll be faced with. We build that into our budget (and) assume it's going to take us months to plan how to use the theatre best again."
The production opened in spring 2022 to more than 425 performances. This is the second venue to close; the first, in San Francisco, closed on September 11, 2022.

Whether this bodes well for the rest of the shows worldwide - including London, New York City, Hamburg, Melbourne, and Tokyo, remain to be seen.
