While Brandon had been in lots of danger, he didn't like to put himself in the way of it. He also couldn't let other people do that to themselves when he had the change to stop them.
Brandon secretly wondered if Dynah was going to steal from him too. "Um... sometimes when you are forced into playing the violin for years, you find a way to like it," Brandon responded carefully. "It's definitely a beautiful instrument, and being musically talented is nice." Brandon didn't quite know if he liked the violin or not. In any case, he played every day, since it was a familiar activity. Brandon found it hard to stop a routine like that. And it wasn't the violin's fault that he felt all conflicted. So... the violin was still being used. ...he felt bad for ignoring her question, and eventually responded. "Maybe not violin buddies, but we could play together sometimes..." As long as she wasn't going to steal from him. Or talk the whole way through when they were supposed to be getting lost in the music. "I just usually play alone." "I mostly play classical. I have favorite artists and moods within that, but I was never taught anything else." “I have money, Brandon,’’ Dy assured with maddening calmness and patience. “It was only a suggestion because I wanted to see if the Sneakoscopes would think I’m untrustworthy for wanting to steal and they’ll light up.” The girl eyed the objects through narrowed eyes. “Though I suppose they won’t light up if it senses that I really don’t intend on stealing.” Dy relaxed her gaze. “Oh Brandon, you silly, caring boy. Stealing’s not my thing either.” Brandon was a real friend, wasn’t he? “So, are you going to get one of them? I kinda want one too. “As long as you like it.” Dynah considered Brandon, considered his words and felt a hint of sadness for him. No one should ever be forced into doing something they didn’t want to. At a very, very tender age she had learnt that from her fathers. “Music’s a good way to cope with stuff though. So your violin will help on bad days.” Her face broke into a smile. “Whenever you want to play, just let me know! I usually play alone too! For now, I just try to play songs that everyone knows but someday, I’m going to write my own pieces.” Don’t worry, Brandon. When Dy hit that first note, she got absolutely lost and forgot the world around her. “Who’re your favourites?” |
