It’s really good.” She wasn’t sure if Mouse had ever tried a cookie like that.
Would Lisa trade her position as the youngest in the family? Maybe this year was the first year that she’d consider it because she finally understood that next year it would just be here and then there would be no Nams. “No, I like being the youngest and watch my siblings encounter life and take notes on what worked and what didn’t work,” she joked before picking up a Yakgwa cookie to munch on. “I wouldn’t change it for the world. Do you have siblings?”
“My Appa’s job keeps us on the move. He works for the South Korean government in the Muggle world. His work takes us loads of places but fortunately we’re able to stay in a place for a few years on assignment. Eomma runs the Nam operations and works elsewhere.” To be honest, Lisa couldn’t remember what her Eomma did but she knew Eomma was in charge at home.
As she listened to Mouse speak, she couldn’t help but pick up on the fact that Mouse’s parents were either separated by death or divorce. She opted for divorce as Mouse had said her mother had a house in France. A divorce… she couldn’t imagine her parents ever getting one. They seemed so happy… even when they adopted Solana and had tried to make another sinking work. “It must be nice to have a cousin close by! I appreciate my cousins.” Cora, Chase, Chin-hae. It was weird to think they all ended up with C names. A quirky coincidence indeed.
Now a topic she loved to brag- er talk about- were her brothers. “My eldest brother is a Healer in his final years of residency. He’s epic. I… He practically raised me when I was a kid. Noah was a Gryffindor here. He used to ballet dance but chose to become a Healer after the Hogwarts conflict… Y’know the war a few years ago,” she explained. She needed to write him an OWL to ask how he was. “And and Evan. He’s off traveling the world with a good friend.. or was it girlfriend, I can’t remember? He needed a gap year. He was a Ravenclaw. Quiet, studious, stoic… but a big heart. He and I became closer at Hogwarts.” The enthusiastic agreement had the girl giggling softly, before she focused on the tin as Lisa explained what each type was. She felt a bit guilty for having selected one before waiting to hear the types, especially considering how her family clearly put thought into the gift given the wide range of flavors. The lemon she had selected was definitely delicious, but the Yakgwa certainly peaked her interest and she determined to try one of those later. "What's a vienna cookie?" She supposed she probably should have known the answer to that one, but it was currently escaping her memory. Her parents were certainly not the bake cookies type at home. Well... they hadn't been before, at least.
She made a VERY good point on being the youngest, and Mouse nodded her head in agreement. "That's very sound reasoning." Lisa might have been joking, but she certainly took it as seriousness. "What have you learned so far?" If she were open to sharing the information anyways. Davet was the closest thing she had to an older sibling and she hadn't observed much from him yet on do's and don'ts of the world. It was a bit melancholic for how difficult that question was to answer now, and Mouse took a bite of her cookie to try to hide that fact. That used to be a very simple answer. And while she would have liked to still say no, Rosie was here which meant people would realize eventually they had some type of familial relation, so perhaps it was easier to just... claim her. She didn't particularly like the idea of being perceived a liar, so with that thought she gave a small nod. "A younger step sister. She was sorted into Hufflepuff this term." Which thankfully was on the other side of the castle.
Her mask now firmly in place, Mouse shifted herself again slightly so she could lean back against a bed frame post while she listened to her dorm mate, a small smile just given how excited Lisa seemed to be talk about family. It was clear she had a good relationship with them, which was enough to chase any of her own negative thoughts to the far recesses of her mind. "A job with travel sounds exciting! But especially that you get to settle for a few years before it's on the go again. Having to move every year I imagine would be exhausting for you and your siblings." Always having to make new friends sounded isolating. In regards to her cousin, she smiled and nodded, but didn't offer anything further as she opted to listen instead of Lisa's brothers.
The mention of the war did catch her attention and her smile slipped the smallest fraction at the solemnity. "A noble reason to pick such a noble career. We're lucky we weren't at schools at the time, I can't imagine how scary it must have been for those who were." She had considered asking the seventh years, but it did not seem a topic someone should ask at all considering the affects of the trauma. "You must miss them both terribly." At least it sounded like she did, given how fondly she spoke of both. And with the further information about the younger of the two, Mouse was certain she knew exactly who he was which she decided to divulge. "I think I actually met one of your brothers, in passing. Evan. My cousin is dating his friend, Jude."
