Peeves… She agreed with him. “I think so too. I haven’t had a run in yet so I’m content. Maybe I can just stay low and avoid any run ins… I don’t know why he would target the Hufflepuff table. You guys seemed pretty calm compared to the other tables.” The Gryffindor table had been boisterous… but then again… the Gryffindor table always seemed up to something. She was surprised by Jude’s reaction when he mentioned Holden was awesome. Lisa thought he was alright though she had heard Aria’s affectionate nickname for him… she just couldn’t see him that way but… each to their own, she supposed?
She was glad to seem better since their last run in. The wedding had been over the summer and she had been focused on a few things. Overall, she was better. There were a few things that were still confusing but she was managing. At least, she felt comfortable pushing back on people and doing what she wanted to do instead of pleasing. Still. It was challenging at times… “Thanks Jude.. I… I think I’m 80% there… A few more things to figure out but I’m not going to let it worry me. I’ve got bigger things to worry about like OWLS…” And a potential date but she was trying her best not to think about it. Life was going to work out the way it was meant to be…. And she was going to be okay with it. Maybe. She didn’t like releasing full control of her life as she had UNREALISTICALLY HIGH expectations of HERSELF. She nodded. “Of course!” It was good to see him smiling too.
Say. You know what was better than seeing him smiling? Hearing that he was seeing someone that he liked! “Really? Jude, I’m happy for you. That’s great.” This was a good thing. “Things going well, I take it?”
The Stewie comment gave her pause. “Yeah, he’s the best. I always have fun with him. Evan really likes him.” She had picked up on her brother’s approval for her friend. It was interesting. “We’ve been friends since my first year here. I can’t imagine Hogwarts without him. I got to spend some time with him, V, and Daniel over the summer. It was fun!” It had only been mildly awkward considering the thing she had witnessed at the dance… She hadn’t brought it up to Stewie because it hadn’t bothered her then…
Jude suppressed a shudder. Swamp water was something he found most repulsive, the reason why he avoided the Fifth Floor corridor unless he couldn’t absolutely help it. “If you ever come across any, let me know, please? Otherwise, the Bubble Head Charm will just have to suffice.” He shrugged. “Peeves probably thinks Hufflepuffs are the most boring House.’’ Cue him rolling his eyes. “Or that we’re WAY too nice so he decided to spice things up. Oh, you and me both, Lisa! I mean, there’s worse things than swamp water so I’d rather not get all entangled in Peeves’ antics.”
The Hufflepuff would be so pleased - and rather proud - that Lisa had started putting herself first rather than pleasing others as much as she did before. “One day at a time, one step at a time,’’ he told her. “You’ll get where you want to be, no matter how long it takes. Trust me, I know.” At the mention of OWLs, he bobbed his head. “Never has there been a bigger distraction to life than a major exam! I know you’ve got Ev for this sort of thing but I’m always around should you need a study buddy. What’s your worst subject?” Maybe he could provide a little extra help with that if it were one that he excelled at.
Jude laughed, nibbling on the sour treat he had taken earlier. “Yes, really! He’s always liked me but… you know… I was too taken up with Ev.” He still was but now Jude was just better at paying attention to someone who was romantically interested in him. “It is so far. It’s just that he doesn’t know about Hogwarts and all the other magical aspects of my life as yet and I feel bad about that.” I sort of felt as though he were lying to Davet.
He was genuinely happy for her, happy to hear that she was moving forward. “I’m proud of you, Lisa,’’ Jude remarked earnestly. “And I’m pleased that you’re spending time with the people who care about you. They’re always some of the biggest help you can have. I don’t know Stewie well but he seems really nice. He’s lucky to have you as a friend.” |
