Lots of mentions *randomly tagged* | Norbert(a) | The Wandmaker (tm) Vale might have rolled his eyes at Elian’s compliment. Yes, he had a talented tongue. Yes, he could pick up key similarities in languages he didn't speak with those he did and therefore communicate enough to get by, but saying he was probably the best French speaker in the room was silly. He’d been speaking it all his life. Elian on the other hand, had learned it after they met in a bar and decided he wasn’t going to let Valentin push him away. Still, Elian would have been able to sense that Vale was a bit pleased by the complement. {“Well, that would be because I have been speaking it my entire life.”}
Still, to say that Valentin didn’t enjoy speaking his native language when he was not in France was an understatement. There was always less of a chance of being misunderstood or him saying something in the wrong syntax. {“Nice to make your acquaintance Mr. Rousseau. I guess you could say, international relations and some wayward Lolabugs washing up on French shores.”} Still, that didn’t really explain things and so after a slight pause Valentin added. {“I am an ambassador for the Ministry of Magical Affairs of France.”} ”And to all who need it,” Hugo replied to the MereQueen before tossing back his second mere-drink of the night. His eyes watered again, this time tearing fiercely at the corners. He had to hold back a cough, knowing that to let it out might upset his drinking companion. The puff of steam from his ears was so fierce that this time the hair around his ears curled. He managed a smile and then turned to Vivi. He lowered his voice as he picked up another glass and held it out to the cranky woman. ”Better partake Ms. James, lest you start an international incident.” ”Nice to meet you Mr. Dolph,” Conley said, noting silently that Sachin had turned down food. Clearly he had put his foot in it badly this time. He was going to have to work harder to make things up to his husband, starting with an apology which he couldn’t really do in front of others. So for starters, he reached over for Sachin’s hand. Whether or not his husband would let him take it would indicate to him just how much groveling he had to do later, or whether some flowers and sweets would need to be purchased tomorrow. ”Well, I’m hungry. I wouldn’t mind a table. And another drink,” he’d drank his rather quickly. As they returned to the bar for another drink, Conley was distracted by Alana who seemed to be rather parched. ”Ms. Potter,” he called out. ”Care to join us for something - perhaps a bit more - ah - satisfying?” Perhaps she needed something with salt in it? Or perhaps there was something else wrong. Conley looked to Sachin to see if he had any input on the situation.
