There had been the briefest of thoughts about letting Ari come along with her to another Ministry gala, but it had been summarily dismissed as likely not entirely the best place for an excitable eight year old. Although, as Dylan had walked around the edge of the dance floor, she had to admit to herself that her daughter would have loved being so close to the fish and everything else. And the jellyfish lights. And likely just about everything that was there. Her daughter certain had inherited the love of animals from someone or other. Odds were, it was her grandpa Morgenstern.

Either way, she had found herself nearing the spot her cousin Chloe was conversing with one of the merperformers, along with the department head for A&C (Kendra). Feeling rather like she was underdressed, she paused and gave the merperson a smile. “I agree, that song was lovely,” she added, giving Kendra the briefest of glances in confusion along with the mer. There was plenty of water around their little bubble, after all. Unless the woman had meant the bubbles the mer were traveling in specifically?

It was an odd feeling, knowing she might qualify as a seasoned employee at the Ministry by now. Especially as in many ways, Skye still felt like a rookie. She was still younger than many of the other employees, even some of the new ones, she imagined. And her father still went through the lectures about constant vigilance and staying prepared for anything any time she left for events like these. Actually, he still reminded her every day as she left for work, unless mum distracted him. Or Finlay, when he was around. Or any of the agency employees.

Part of her wondered if her cousins were roaming around the gala somewhere, as she casually reached up to try to touch one of the tentacles draped from the ceiling. If just because she still enjoyed spending time with Scott and Logan, and whomever the two might have around them. Not to mention, there was a part of her that liked reminding them she was old enough to be working there, however much she might not outwardly look as if she was. It wasn’t her fault she rather didn’t appear to be 23 going on 24. She liked looking young for her age.

Galas were certainly not the usual habitation of one Conall MacEachern. The Scottish hit wizard was much more content being out in the field on a mission, or in the kitchen. There were times he even might have admitted to be more comfortable going home to be teased by his brothers and parents, especially given his relationship with Emma Ferguson. Wherever that was headed, as there were moments when he certainly wondered how he’d managed to snag her.

Either way, he was in attendance. He’d even managed to get his hair looking somewhat presentable, even if family members kept at him to cut it. He didn’t want to. His hair was practically one of his notable identifiers, or at least he thought it might be. Dressing up wasn’t his thing at all, but this wasn’t a war, or even one of his cases. He had to at least attempt to look the part, if just for his girlfriend if she was around here somewhere.

That and he was choosing to ignore the fact they were underwater.
