Cassian was at home with Valentin’s father and Elian hadn’t sung at a big government event in years.

However, he stopped, having heard someone else speaking French. He turned looking and found Indigo greeting them with a very big happy smile. ”Bonjour,” he replied with his most charming smile. A few years ago, the interruption might have made Valentin cranky, although he wouldn’t have shown it. But years of having Elian around had tamed a little of his ornery nature. ”Well, you 'ave found pairhaps la deux peoplé een zis space zat do.” He offered a hand to shake. And then, making the assumption that the man also spoke French, he continued in his native tongue. {“Valentin Roux,”} he said placing a hand over his heart. He waved the hand then in Elian’s direction. {“And my husband, Elian. And who do we have the pleasure of meeting?”}

His eyes were wide as they followed an interesting-looking fish he’d never seen before when Vale suddenly halted. He turned back to look at him and saw him smile at a person who had spoken to them. Elian hadn’t even noticed, but that wasn’t surprising. The amulet often left his senses hyper fixated on Vale to the point of noticing no one else.

But he smiled at the stranger, now and took a half step back to Vale. He took Vale’s hand in one of his and, after a moment of hesitation, extended his other to shake hands. This was the one exception to the way his amulet worked: skin-to-skin contact. The sudden influx of emotions could be jarring, but it was brief, and usually he received something between polite boredom and genuine cheerfulness, which was manageable. ”My husband exaggerates. There are many people here who speak French, but none of them as well as him,” he said in his unusual American/English/and now French accent, turning those blue eyes up to Vale with one of those smiles that betrayed how smitten he was with his husband even after several years of marriage.

Indigo was even more delighted when the first man introduced the other as his husband. If he had to talk to strangers, the fact that they spoke French made it a little better. The fact that they were husbands made it even better. French gays were exactly the sort of people Indigo wanted to associate with (being one himself). He smiled and reached out to shake both of their offered hands.

"Indigo Rousseau. It's a pleasure to meet you both." He continued in French. It was always his default language if he had the choice. His own accent was vaguely French, for those that knew what they were looking for. But he had been living primarily in England long enough that it wasn't super distinctive anymore. "What brings you to this gala?" He was assuming that one of them worked for the Ministry, but he wasn't sure if invitations had been extended to others so maybe neither of them were. He hadn't seen them around, but this was only his second year working for the Ministry and he did do his best to avoid meeting new people so that wouldn't be that out of the question.
