That was it's primary use, although not the only use as charms inventors have come to realize. She did squint at Violet's chanting because it sounded almost right, yet not quite. "Queritorto", it seemed she missed the the first t, so Leanne only hoped Violet would hear it when she emphasized upon it this time.

Violet heard the professor's voice drifting in through her singleminded focus. Oh. Queritorto. Yes. Feeling stupid for not catching it earlier, Violet cast the revised charm several time and immediately noticed that the feeling on her glove was different. Testing it out, she found that now it did indeed grip in a satisfactory manner. But that had been a stupid mistake for a Seventh Year to make. ("Get it together, Violet!" she mentally told herself.)

And now--tree climbing. Which, despite Violet's lack of athletic ability and her (slight and never publicly acknowledged) fear of heights, was actually a skill Violet was rather good at. As long as she didn't have to climb too high. Which, unfortunately, it seemed that she would for this exercise. This would not be as easy as climbing up far enough to hide between the leaves and eavesdrop on her uncles conversations at home.

But, okay. She was trying for a N.E.W.T. in charms, so she had to get this down. "QueriTORto!" Violet cast, making sure to get it right this time. She cast it on her gloved hands and on her feet and then began climbing the first marked tree she came to. Wow! This gripping charm really made a difference. This made tree-climbing amazingly easy! Violet was making it up to the top of this tree in record time! Glancing down to see how far she had come, she immediately realized she had made a mistake there, because the bottom of her stomach suddenly seemed to shoot up into the top. Looking quickly back up to where she was going, Violet tried to put what she'd just seen firmly out of her mind, and vowed not to look down again for the rest of this activity. A few firm swallows cleared up the uneasiness in her stomach and at last, she was at the top. And there, among the small top branches, as promised, was a bright green egg! Violet grabbed it, easily, in one hand and shoved it inside her robe pocket, and then carefully made her way back down, not thinking about how high she had climbed.

Finally she was back on solid earth. Stopping to open her egg, she read: 'Number 4'.
