Turning her attention to the non-sitting poodle, Violet offered "Maybe try pushing gently on her rump while you say 'sit'--I think I read that in a book somewhere." And, bending down, Violet tried that very thing herself: "Sit--sit," she said in what she hoped was a firm voice, and with her right hand, firmly but gently gave the dog's rear end a push downward. The smaller one already had the right idea too it seemed though, as a hand was offered. Lola gave a happy bark, before closing the distance and nudging the girl’s hand, giving it a quick lick.
She was waiting for the younger to start petting her, when she felt a hand on her rump. Flipping her head, Lola eyed the hand before squirming away from it and moving herself to the other side of the small one and sitting beside her. Excuse you, older student! Where was her affection first!? She eyed her suspiciously.
Violet wanted her to push gently on the dog's rump? Nope. Not Delilah. If Lola wanted a pat on the rump she'd have to look toward her older human friend for that.
Which was just what happened a second later.
Delilah watched as Violet tried the technique, which actually looked a lot different than Delilah had imagined it would look. Lola, however, didn't seem to like it one bit. Yeah...Delilah could kind of see why that might be. Her eyes flickered between Lola and Violet as she tried to figure out what to try next. "Maybe just a gentle pet on the back?" she offered. She knelt down beside her canine friend and began petting Lola's back. Text Cut: New Activity! Quote:

Glancing at his wrist watch, he could see he was correct. He pushed himself up off the ground, a groan escaping, as the pup pranced off to probably beg someone for treats or play with another unclaimed pup. He dusted off his pants, before giving a loud clap once to get everyone’s attention. “Alright! It’s time to move on to our next activity and put your commands and bonding to the test.” A wave of his wand, and another opening in the fence formed connecting to the unopened shed across the clearing. “It’s time to see how our new friends do with Nogtails.” It was good to know how to clear the demons, both for informational sake and future necessity dependent upon their next careers. “Now, the other shed does have nogtails within. Before we begin, I’d like to put everyone’s mind at ease. They may be called demons, but they are not looking to harm you. Nor will they be able to cast a curse on the grounds, as we do not have a family sow.” Meaning, they were perfectly safe. “I can assure you, whether these dogs have success in herding or not, breeds that excel in protection were specifically selected for your peace of mind.” At least three of these breeds would not let the humans or other dogs be in harms way. “That being said, herding is the goal. I will be releasing the nogtails into the clearing,” he expanded it ever so slightly so the kids had more space to avoid. “Your task here, is to give the command to your dogs of the day to usher the nogtails back into the shed.” And for anyone concerned if they were harming the nogtails, the answer was no. This was safe, if not frightful, and commonly done with animals of all sorts on farm settings. “Instinct will primarily take over for the pups, but commands will be needed to keep them on track. Some might stick close to protect your or your partner, others might try to herd the other dogs, or just be disinterested. Think and take note on what motivated your puppy partner to listen to your instructions and utilize that. You’ll have the rest of class to work with your dog and see if you can herd.” He glanced at his watch again, noting that gave them around another 20 minutes. “If anyone has any questions, let me know. Good luck.”
And with that, another wave of his wand and the second shed door opened - allowing the pig like magical creatures to escape and scatter around the clearing. Quote:

Then Violet heard Professor Amstern announce that he would releasing the Nogtails. Despite all the assurances he was making, Violet was feeling uneasy about the whole exercise. They hadn't established much of a relationship with their puppy--it had only managed to sit once, and that reluctantly. What was going to happen now that they would be under attack? Violet had an uncomfortable feeling that if the puppy did anything, it would protect Delilah and throw her, Violet, under the bus. Well, she was a sixth year, after all--after fighting off the Neo-Alliance, how much worse could these things be?
Violet made sure her wand was ready in her hand, took a step closer to Delilah, and, looking down at the poodle, said softly, "Look out, then, puppy, here they come! Don't worry, we won't let them hurt you," quite forgetting that it was the dog that was supposed to be warding them. Quote:

Was it the weird creatures running around making them nervous? Lola crouched down and gave a couple of menacing growls, accompanied with a few barks. Should she chase? Would the girls feel better? She looked over at the elder waiting for the command.
Ugh.
Delilah did not really want to deal with the actual nogtails. Demon or not, they still seemed creepy to her. On that note, she literally had no idea what to do. All she'd ever done is pet Lola, and even then, the professor had moved on to another activity before Delilah had a chance to see if her technique had worked. She looked toward Violet, but unless she was getting the complete wrong impression, Violet didn't seem to know what to do either. "I...I don't know what to do," Delilah said, slightly panicked. She fumbled around for some of her treats. Maybe Lola would jump into action for a treat or two? Delilah ran her hand gently down the dog's back. "Come on, girl! You can do it!" she encouraged. She stood back up on her feet and offered the dog the treat.
