Edric cleared his throat and sat up suddenly, struck (as though by lightning) but really just struck by the touch of her hand (which felt like lightning to someone he'd never been touched by before). He sat up so fast he might have, in fact, knocked into her.

"I'm sorry I'm fine, I'm just...." He started scuttling backwards on his hands, like an odd little gangly crab. "I'm just sc---"

He was scared, he admitted it. Or thought he did. The words might have been stuck in his throat.
